Self-Control, Where’d You Go?

Spanish Tapas. Scones. Chinese. Whole Foods (whew!). More scones + Ice Cream. Oh, God. Looking at it in print makes me feel even worse.
Don’t get me wrong. I think weekends are meant for hypothetical stretchy pants. It’s a time to indulge and enjoy yourself – and I usually embrace this idea and don’t think twice. But as I sit here replaying my meal movie reel in my head, I’m asking “Where did my self-control go?!” (Does it help my case that it’s that time?) When I go balls-to-the-wall and forget about moderation, I being to feel less than stellar. I feel lethargic. My skin starts to go south. My Chron’s acts up. I become self-conscious. It’s not good. But rather than sit here and freak out, I just need to get my butt into gear and back on track! Right?
Yesterday, Cory and I made our way out of our PJs and over to Whole Foods ๐ My favorite part of WF is the trail mix bar (that’s not the technical name, I’m sure)
I threw together some almonds, honey granola, banana chips, walnuts and a few chocolates. It even made an appearance in my oats this morning ๐
I think it’s impossible for us to visit our beloved Whole Foods without eating a meal. Thank goodness it was lunch time! I had a “make your own” veggie sandwich: spinach, tomatoes, swiss cheese, grilled veggies, and mustard. It was delicious, per the usual.
For dinner we had a pasta with grilled chicken and veggies – but I didn’t take a picture! Do you know what I did get a picture of though? My 240,590,345th indulgence of the weekend: my scone and ice cream dessert ๐ I heated up the scone before topping with ice cream and it was absolutely heavenly!
Look at this cute little ice cream I found at Giant! (I used a little less than half and it was perfect)
I enjoyed this dessert while watching beautiful and 100% toned movie stars walk down the red carpet ๐ Who made your best-dressed list?? For me it was Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon Mila Kunis and Mandy Moore!
They all looked so beautiful!!
This morning I woke up and made myself some regular PB&J oats with some added WF trail mix. Perfection.
Tonight I have round 2 of my alcohol program. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that at least one person peopleย show up this time! ๐
Chit-chat: Who do you think should make the Oscar’s Best Dressed List? How do you deal with an over-indulgent weekend come Monday morning?
I love the dresses you picked!! I adored Reese’s black and white dress and her green jewelry! She was stunning as always ๐ xo
My weekend looked a lot like yours – I had wayy too much frozen yogurt and got some delicious tiramisu from Earthfare yesterday.
Reese Witherspoon wins hands down for me. She always looks flawless even in her everyday errands.
I ate too much this weekend too. My plan was to get up and work it off at the gym this morning, but due to tornado warnings last night, I didn’t get much sleep. I’m going to try my best not to stress about it; I think that only makes it worse! And I can still go to the gym tonight ๐
I agree! Stress only makes it worse. What’s done is done. Let’s just plan on eating healthy today!
I like Reese’s hair & makeup but I thought her dress was kind of boring. Loveddd Mila Kunis though even if her ladies were kinda hangin out haha I also like Hillary Swanks dress too!
LK! I thought the same thing when I saw Reese – like “what? that’s boring.” But it grew on me ๐
Funny that you wrote about this – I just had to do some morning meditation on my over-indulgence this weekend! While I didn’t eat such a variety of things, I felt like with the things I was eating I just had to eat more and more and more! I was so full it was uncomfortable, and I woke up this morning feeling not good.
When that happens I look at what’s going on in my life that’s making me feel like that. I think I’ve been putting too many constraints on my diet, so when I do get to eating I feel like it will be my last tasty meal. Obviously not the case, but that’s what my brain says. If I start this morning being a little more relaxed in my thinking, I know that I’ll easily get back on track without forcing myself, just by having a happy mindset.
Thanks for writing about this! Seems like it was a common theme in a lot of people’s weekends!
Katie, I love that you said you look at what’s going on in your life that’s making you feel like that. I never took that perspective! I just beat myself up about it, and that’s never healthy. Thank you for your response!
When you refer to Whole Foods as WF my mind just can’t stop seeing WTF. ๐ You have now discovered the one and only drawback to baking…who is going to eat these ten dozen scones?
This is a huge drawback! I ate 5 of those things in 3 days!! I think I need to only bake when I have somewhere to take the goods – like a party. Or work. Or my dad ๐
I’ve definitely noticed that if I start to get off-track with my choices then it suddenly becomes so much easier to stay off track…then soon I’m up to my elbows in M&Ms! It’s helpful for me to try to think past the food a bit and figure out what exactly is causing me to eat this particular way (stress, usually) and to see if resolving that issue makes it easier to get back into a healthier lifestyle. It’s no fun feeling crummy after a weekend of eating junk!
I definitely had an over indulgent weekend, too. I just need to get back in the gym and eat my fruits and veggies.
Mila Kunis looked stunning- I am actually really jealous of her!
wait, colleen, you have chron’s disease?!
I sure do. It’s so cute, isn’t it? YUCK.
Girl those oats look amazing!! And I loved Mila’s dress at the awards. So pretty in lavender. I sometimes over indulged on the weekends but I’ve come to terms that dieting is really 90% good and 10% fun so why go nuts when you already had your little cheat. The water weight will be gone in a few days ๐
I love Mila and Reese, but also Penelope Cruz. She always looks so amazing!
I LOVE your best dressed list…and I’m so glad I finally got to watch it last night! And Stephen and I always shopped at Whole Foods back home…but never once ate there! Something new to try when I come back home! ๐
You just made me “d’awwwww!!” at an ice cream carton. How do people even do that?! Haha.
Love the WF trail mix bar. The only ay to describe that is: awesome.
Yum, ice cream! A lot of people didn’t but I loooved Scarlett Johansson’s dress, and Penelope Cruz’s too!
