Upside Down Oats

How do you screw up something as easy as overnight oats? I don’t know what happened, all I know is that I was so looking forward to some cold oats after my workout this morning.

Thanks to Spring Break, I was able to wake up without an alarm πŸ™‚ I made my way over to the gym and did hill intervals on the treadmill for 25 minutes and ended with 15 minutes of strength and stretching. I really, really wish I liked running. I try so hard. I just do not get any sort of enjoyment out of it. But I do it because I know it’s good for me.

So I got back to the apartment, registered for my summer class, and went to the fridge to pull out my beloved overnight oats. They looked normal, but when I went to stir them up…things weren’t so normal.

Yes, these are my upside down overnight oats. How the hell did this happen? Hmph.

I was borderline hangry, so I fixed up a nice bowl of cereal and enjoyed it almost as much.

Oatmeal squares, Honey Nut Cheerios, a couple Mini Wheaties, half a banana and some mixed nuts. It hit the spot, even if I was a little pouty about it πŸ˜‰

I’ve got to go get ready for the day! I can’t believe it’s almost 10:00 and I’m not showered (TMI?) I’m meeting up with my mom this afternoon to go shopping for her dress for the wedding. It’s been tough – it seems like all the MOB dresses out there are a little too mom-ish if that makes any sense. All my mom keeps saying is “I’m NOT wearing a bolero jacket!” πŸ™‚

Enjoy your day, friends! I’ll catch ya a little later today!

Let’s chat – What’s the last food fail you had? Do you like running? (giveΒ me some tips to trick myself into enjoying it!!) Do you like shopping? I could do it all day, but my mom isn’t so crazy about it.

I like running most of the time. But sometimes, we get into fights. Haha. I really like intervals (weird!), and I think it’s because I can’t get bored because I have to change it up every minute or so. That helps alot, especially since the treadmill is the WORST.

    • Colleen says:

Yes! I like intervals because it makes the time go faster πŸ™‚ I’ll do just about anything to make the time fly when I’m on the treadmill haha

Lol; I really wish I liked running also… I have to push myself out the door moreso then I go willing. Its those pesky hill workouts, they will get you everytime!!! ha ha

I love running in my neighborhood back home, it’s a perfect 2 mile loop, but music is crucial! Annnnd lets just say I could shop til I drop! Or in my case…til I get hungry πŸ™‚

Running can be hard sometimes. I find that good music is realy key for me. Intervals are also really helpful for making the time pass. Warm up for a few minutes and then alternate running at a sprint for 60 seconds and letting yourself recover for two minutes. I find running outside much more enjoyable because there’s lots to look at and I hate the feeling of working so hard to not actually go anywhere on the treadmill. Haha. Good luck lady!

    • Colleen says:

Thanks for the sprinting tips! Yeah, music is really important. I can also get by with a show on TV too. I like running outside, but I feel like I get wiped out quicker. UGH! πŸ˜‰

  5. I don’t like running either. It’s bad on my joints, and it hurts my stomach. So why am I following a running plan right now? Sometimes I don’t know, haha. I feel I do it to follow the crowd, which is not a good reason!

    • Colleen says:

It’s bad on my joints and hurts my stomach, too! What the heck are we doing?! πŸ˜‰ Can’t we find a more enjoyable cardio workout? πŸ™‚

  6. Trisha says:

I love running! Something about the simplicity of just putting on shoes and hitting the pavement with yourself. It’s so nice.

My mom feels the same way about MOB dresses! We had to get creative for my sister’s wedding πŸ™‚

    • Colleen says:

I love the simplicity of it, too! That’s why I wish I liked it πŸ™‚ So glad to hear your mom was the same way with her dress! Where did she end up getting it?!

  7. Jess says:

I hate running. I do it here and there, but it’s definitely not something I can do everyday. Outside is always better:)

  8. Michelle says:

Ah! Overnight oats are not as easy as they would seem… I just my own issue with them πŸ™‚

I used to hate running, but then I found myself liking it more and more as I got a little better at it. Once it wasn’t as hard, I started to actually think it was fun. That doesn’t mean that I always want to do my runs, but it has helped.

    • Colleen says:

Yeah, Miss 10 Miler!! I’m so impressed by you! I think if it wasn’t so hard, it would be easier. I think I just need to be more consistent with it – maybe that will help.

  9. Jenny says:

The other day I added a bit too much water and my overnight oats were a little runnier than usual. I still ate it though lol Love your quick fix cereal breakfast!

  10. tknologlvr says:

I love running. Try what Galloway suggests, run/walk plan. Incorporate walks into the running workout. And slow down!

  11. I’ve had plenty of oats fail me, maybe you didn’t put enough liquid in?

I love running. I started out running and walking (the galloway method) and then eventually got into running shorter distances and it grew from there. I wouldn’t force it, but I would start run/walking with some amazing music to get you going!

    • Colleen says:

Maybe there wasn’t enough liquid. Good point. Running is so weird for me, I’ve run 5Ks, a 5 mile race and a 10K. So I CAN run – I think it’s all mental, and I just psych myself out when I’m running and it’s not a race setting. I think I’m going to try the Galloway Method. Thanks! πŸ™‚

  12. haha; love the oats backfire. dying to know what happened there?! you may have seen, but the other day i decided to bake scones in a pie plate. that was a defffinite execution fail; but luckily the crumbs tasted wonderful πŸ˜›
i hear you on the running thing, too. i so badly want to love it, but every time i give it another shot i just remind myself that I don’t. i’m sure come warmer weather i’ll give it another go and realize the same thing πŸ˜›
I hope you had luck shopping today!
