Lucky Duck

Hi there! Is everyone excited for an abbreviated workweek? You know I don’t like Tuesdays, but since I have a very short week this week, I can handle it ๐Ÿ™‚

Monday recapย

Yesterday was such a great, lazy day. I love days that have absolutely nothing on the agenda. No “have to’s” of any kind. This weekend I slept 9 – 10 hours each night and it was glorious. I guess my body needed to catch up on some sleep!

I spent about an hour at the pool yesterday. Jesus Christ – it was 100 degrees outside! That’s a little too hot for me. I also limited my time both pool days because I know being in the sun isn’t the best. But, gooosh, I love having a tan!

Post-pool I came back and whipped up a smoothie in no time ๐Ÿ™‚

Refreshing!

My spinach stash had gone bad, so this was a regular old smoothie (please note my extremely precise measurements):

  • ย Just enough skim milk to get everything movin’
  • A handful of ice cubes
  • A dollop of blueberry Chobani
  • 1 1/2 tbsp PB
  • 1 banana
  • 1 frozen strawberry

It was tasty, and even though you cannot taste the spinach, I missed it!

Two for twoย

I made a smoothie, and Cory made a baguette from scratch. No big deal.

He’s never made bread. He just felt like giving it a try. It turned out so well! I even snagged a huge chunk to eat at lunch today ๐Ÿ™‚

Cory was actually 2 for 2 in the kitchen yesterday. We had a little cookout and he made the best burgers I have ever tasted in my entire life. Truly, they were out of this world. How lucky am I? Seriously.

Gross picture, I know. But this was the only one I took. The food was hot and ready to be eaten, so I really didn’t take the time to try and be creative. You forgive me, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

(PS – We didn’t have any butter for the corn, so I sprinkled some parmesan cheese on the cob and it was quite a nice substitute!)

Movin’ Out

Cory moves into our new place in less than a month (!!), so he spent a good chunk of time cleaning out his closet. Look at all this stuff he’s sending to Goodwill!

A good amount of t-shirts were Longwood related, and it was kind of sad to see them placed into the give away pile. I would see a shirt and think “You wore that on such-and-such date.” It was strange!

Tuesday Workout

Remember how I said I’ve been getting 9 – 10 hours of sleep for the past few days? Yeah. Well, when my alarm went off at the ass-crack of dawn, I didn’t budge. An afternoon workout is in my future.

Tuesday Breakfastย

I am running so low on food right now! Like I said, it’s a short week for me because I’m traveling this weekend, so I’m trying to avoid buying food that will go bad. That said, I went to the grocery store at 6 AM to buy juuust enough to get me through the next three days ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank goodness I made the decision to go to the store – how would I have been able to enjoy my beloved cereal combo without milk?!

Quaker oatmeal squares, Special K Multi Grain Oats & Honey, Cheerios, banana, almond sliversย

Well, my friends – that’s the story so far! I’m off to make the bacon ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll catch you guys later!

Let’s chat:

ย Have you ever made bread from scratch? I sure haven’t! ย

ย What’s your favorite smoothie concoction?ย Plain and simple:ย PB & banana, (and spinach) for me!ย

Blueberry Monster

Good morning and happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday off from work or school ๐Ÿ™‚

While it’s still a long weekend, I treated this Monday like any other and got in some cardio. It was such a treat though because I ditched the treadmill and pick up a pretty cute running partner ๐Ÿ˜‰

I know many bloggers take pictures of themselves during and/or post runs – but you won’t see any of that here. I’m far too vain to show myself looking as trife as I do after a long sweaty run outside. I’m just not a pretty sweat-er. Plain and simple.

After our run, Cory and I immediately scarfed down some cereal.

My heart skipped a beat when I realized I had no bananas in my possession. What is cereal without sliced banana?! Thank goodness I remembered the blueberries that I had on hand.

Oh Lawd, these blueberries are fantastic! The pints of blueberries were buy one get one free when I was at Giant yesterday, and that was a deal I couldn’t pass up. I’ve single-handedly demolished a pint in about 24 hours.

Concern?ย

Now Cory and I are off to the grocery store to pick up some eats for our Memorial Day cookout for two. I see a big, juicy burger and some time by the pool in my future – and I don’t hate it ๐Ÿ˜‰

While it’s true that I’m lovin’ this day because it gets me a long weekend, but I would be remiss not to thank all the brave men and women who serve, or have served, in the armed forces. Thank for your service.

Let’s chat – Are you going to a cookout today? We didn’t make plans for today, so we’re just having a little cookout for ourselves ๐Ÿ™‚

What’s your favorite cookout food?ย I love a good burger and baked beans!

Can you kill a pint of blueberries like I can? It’s okay if you think I’m a little out of controlย

Surprise Gym

HAPPY FRIDAY!!

Source

While I don’t normally bare-ass it on Fridays, I do enjoy the more casual and laid back feel of the work day ๐Ÿ˜‰

Workout

The gym that I normally go to on campus is closed for the summer, but little did I know that there is another equally large gym right around the corner.

Well, wouldya look at that…

This blows the mind of a girl who went to a tiny school with only one gym and only one dining hall. This morning I did intervals on the ArcTrainer for 30 minutes. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again – with the right resistance, that baby can give me a good workout!

Breakfast

Today is the “sell by” date on my milk. That always makes me a little wary. I did the smell test. Not too abnormal. I did the shake test. No chunks (thank you, freshman year, for proving that happens). With all systems go – I made a hearty cereal combo ๐Ÿ˜€

Quaker oatmeal squares, Honey Nut Cheerios, Corn Flakes, chia seed, banana

Today is part two of the interview processย so I better go get ready! I hope you have a fabulous Friday! Here’s to a long weekend full of fun, family and relaxation! ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s chat – Do you have any plans for the long weekend?! Do you drink milk on/after the sell by date? I drank it today, but I probably won’t drink it tomorrow. It’s not usually a problem I have – I go through milk so quickly!ย

We’ve Got an App for That.

Hello and happy Wednesday!! Yes, I think that is a long weekend that I see on the horizon ๐Ÿ™‚ Once again, thank you so much for all your kind words. Who knew that there are so many directionally challenged girls out there?! (No men are allowed to answer that question.)

——

Workout

I’m still living on campus, and the gym that opens early is now under construction for the summer. Womp. So it was back to P90X this morning.

I did lunges and squats until I was blue in the face. Okay. Not really, but I think you get the point. It was a legs and back day.ย

Breakfast

There’s nothin’ that can make my morning great like a perfect cereal combo. It seems silly. I know. But there’s something about a bowl of cereal that I just love!

I have to eat my cereal with just enough time left before I have to leave for work, or I’ll pour myself a second bowl without hesitation ๐Ÿ™‚

Blogger App?

Who out there has an iPhone?? Well, I think I may have found the app for bloggers and foodies. Have you heard of Foodish? Cory found it on Gizmodo and sent it my way, and I think I’m going to purchase it.

Source

You take picture of what you eat (many of us have that covered to some extent) and then you give it a smiley face rating on how healthy it is. It gives you a visual representation of what you’ve eaten for the day, or even for weeks at a time. There’s no calorie counting and no food weighing. It just seems kind of fun!

That said, I’m off to pack my lunch and head to work!

Enjoy your day! I’ll catch ya later! ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s chat – Is the Foodish app something you’d use? Do you already have it on your phone?ย

Why Does Misery Love Company?

Hello, my fine friends! How’s everyone feeling today?! I’m feeling a tad bit sluggish due to my inhalation of a piece of white chocolate – raspberry cheesecake last night at The Cheesecake Factory.

Cory and I shared this ginormous slice of heaven (minus the whipped cream.)

Do I feel guilty? Yes, I kind of do. Am I going to fret all day? No – I’m just going to do my best to make healthier decisions today. Easy peasy, lemon squeezey ๐Ÿ™‚

This morning I enjoyed a sweaty P90X plyometrics session which was swiftly followed up by my beloved cereal combo ๐Ÿ™‚

Quaker oatmeal squares, Honey Nut Cheerios, Kashi Crisp!, almond slivers and 1/2 a banana

—-

Okay, so now let’s get into the stuff behind this post’s title.

We all know the saying Misery Loves Company, right?

Source

I mean, I get it – kind of. If I’m feeling down in the dumps, I don’t necessarily want to throw you a party to celebrate something happy in your life.

I’d rather bitch and moan with a friend who likes vodka.

But those feelings are normally momentary – not a way of life. Andย let’s be honest; I’d still throw you a party if you deserved one ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, Cory and I were talking yesterday about how we’ve noticed that some people are so quick to rain on a love parade (or any kind of parade, really.)

Here’s an example of a conversation that happened a few days ago:

Me: Yeah, we’re finally going to move in together after the wedding (insert giddy grin here) I’m so excited!

*Debby D: Wait – you’ve never lived together?!

Me: Nope. We wanted to wait.

Debby D: Woah. Psh.ย Humpf.(Cue more huffing and puffing) Get ready for the most difficult year of your life!

Me: Wow, thanks Debby. You’re quite the ray of sunshine. (<— Okay, this part happened in my head)

*Names may have been changed to protect the identity of a real life sour-puss.

Why are people like this?

Are they really that miserable?ย

I truly hope not, because that would be tragic – but it’s disappointing how people so rarely want to tell you something positive.ย If someone is happy, why on Earth would another person feel the need to say something negative? This totally blows my mind.

I don’t have a profound conclusion to this thought (do I ever?) – but I wanted to get it out there. Maybe other people have experienced people like Debby D? ย

Disclaimer: Let’s get real – encountering a Debby or Nancy doesn’t truly affect me, but it does make me wonder: WTF?

If you have any thoughts whatsoever on this subject, please share!ย If not, thanks for reading my vent-session ๐Ÿ˜‰

Cereal Crisis

Hello, hello! Happy Friday, friends ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s a pretty gloomy day here, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s the weekend – so I’ll take it!

Workout

I’m surprised that I even remembered what to do when I got to the gym this morning. It feels like it’s been 10 years since I’ve been. I did this strength circuit and spent a very sweaty 25 minutes running on the treadmill. I’ve read that if you do intervals, you don’t have to stay on that wretched machineย the treadmill as long compared to a one-speed run.

If that’s not true, please don’t correct me.

Breakfast

Two very scary things happened this morning in regards to my favorite meal. #1 – I had no milk or cereal in my possession. #2 – Giant was out of Quaker Oatmeal Squares. I went ape shit and knocked cereal boxes off the wall in hopes that one solitary Quaker Oats box was hiding amongst the granola and Kashi – but no such luck.

I had to resort to Puffins.

Don’t get me wrong. Puffins were my jam during my freshman year of college. But I think I ate them one-too-many times, if you knowwaddaImean. Now I just smell my old dorm when I eat them.

Stranger things have happened, friends.

Foods Alive

The only thing that helped mend my broken heart was the fact that Foods Alive sent me some fantastic products to try out – chia seeds being one of them. They made an appearance in my poor-man’s cereal combo and really stole the show.

They sent me some of their flax crackers and raw peanuts as well!

I opened the Maple Cinnamon crackers as soon as I got my paws on them, and they were delicious. The peanuts were unlike any peanuts I’ve ever tasted – maybe because I’ve never had raw peanuts? I’d be lying if I said I like my peanuts sans salt, but these were good and healthy-tasting. I think I’ll be making them into peanut butter soon! ๐Ÿ™‚

Alrighty, friends! I am now getting into research mode to find cute and exciting wedding reception decoration ideas. If you have any, send ’em my way! Have a great Friday! I’ll catch ya later ๐Ÿ˜‰

Let’s chat – What flavor cracker sounds better to you – Maple Cinnamon or Mexican Fiesta?ย

Slow Runnings

Hey there! How’s your Tuesday going so far? I’m dragging this morning. I stayed up too late because I was absolutely glued to all things Royal Wedding on TLC. Judging by Twitter conversations last night, I’m not the only one who’s counting down the hours until the Friday nuptials ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, I’ll save that chatter until the end of the week (but feel free to tweet me about it ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Professional Status

As some of you saw, Cory gave me my first golf lesson yesterday. Cory’s grown up playing golf, and I thought it would be a neat thing to try that would allow me to step outside my box.

I’m really bad at remembering to keep my knees bent and my butt out. It’s an extremely awkward stance, and when I looked at the older men around me, no one else resembled a confused duck quite like myself.

Cory did an excellent job as Coach. It’s not easy to teach someone like me a new trick because I get frustrated. Easily.

I completely missed the ballย several times, but to my own credit, I hit some really good ones too. If they got air, they qualified as PGA material ๐Ÿ˜‰

Workout and Breakfast

Now that I’m a pro golfer, I felt that a good weight lifting session was in order in this morning ๐Ÿ˜‰ I followed up my workout with a phenomenal cereal combo.

Cereal never gets old, friends. Never.

Tonight I’m starting a new volunteer experience, and it’s pretty unique. You’ll never guess what I’m doing. I’ll fill you guys in soon!

Let’s chat Okay, I lied about holding off on the Royal Wedding chatter:ย Have you been sucked in? What’s the last new thing you learned (sport, recipe, party trick..)?ย

Back into the Groove

Good morning, my friends! Thanks so much for the positive comments to my being a “bad blogger” this weekend. I’m back and ready to fall into the groove again ๐Ÿ™‚

Last night Cory and I spent hours looking for wedding invitations. Do you have any idea how tedious that process is?! Goodness gracious. At one point, we decided that instead of messing with invitations, we were just going to head to the tropics and elope ๐Ÿ˜‰

Source

This wouldn’t require any invites ๐Ÿ˜‰

All that invitation information made us hungry! We ended up having cereal for dinner and it hit the spot. Quaker Oatmeal Squares + Almond Special K + 1/2 banana for me and Wheaties for Cory. Perfection.

We also spent time looking for our first home ๐Ÿ™‚ This excites me to no end. We’ve never lived together, and after almost five years – I feel like we’ve earned it! I told Cory we’re having a ceremonial “overnight bag burning” when we move in together. I HATE packing up everything when I visit on the weekends. And yes, it would be easier to leave stuff at both places, but that requires having enough money to own duplicates of a blow dryers, brushes, sneakers, etc.

Last night I also made a batch of cookies (from a bag). We have a meeting with my parish priest tonight about setting up pre-martial classes, and I figured Father wouldn’t turn down some treats. I just hope he didn’t give up sweets for Lent! ๐Ÿ˜‰

This weekend I didn’t push myself to workout. I did some Kenpo-X on Saturday morning, but Sunday was an absolute dud. I made up for it this morning by running 3 miles. It felt pretty good. It ALSO felt good when my face didn’t freeze off when I walked outside this morning. It’s supposed to get up to 77 degrees today! Wahoo!! ๐Ÿ™‚

My breakfast was quite similar to last night’s dinner. Scroll up if you need to refresh your memory ๐Ÿ˜‰

Alright, friends! I’ve got to head off to work! I’ll catch ya later this afternoon!

Let’s chat – Do you ever eat cereal for dinner? You know I do!

“Earning” the Weekend

Good morning, my friends! The weekend is so close – we can get through this long (and rainy) day, right?! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Workout

It was just me and these babies today. These dumbbells are one of the best gifts I’ve ever received, because sometimes they’re all I need for a good workout – and I don’t have to leave my room!

Before I went to bed last night, I jotted down some strength-training moves that I wanted to knock out before heading to work – and man, they had me sweating!

  • W-press x15
  • Bicep curl to over head press x 15
  • Chair dips x 15
  • Regular Squats x 30
  • Pliet squats (with swinging a dumbbell, kind of the a kettle bell? I know no technical terms, clearly) x 30
  • Chest press x 15
  • Upright rows x 15
  • In and out bicep curls x15
  • Calf raise with tricep extension x 15
  • Plank – 40 seconds
  • 10 push-ups

I did all of these twice, and it took me about 20 minutes. It was quick, but I felt the burn!

Breakfast

My cereal bowl was so good yesterday that I had it again today!

Eats

I’ve mentioned before that Thursdays are my “marathon days” as I work from 8:30 – 4:00, then have class from 4:30 – 10:00. I think of it as “earning” my do-absolutlely-nothing kind of Fridays ๐Ÿ™‚ But on these days, I have to pack my food for the entire day.

Rice & veggies and a Granny Smith for lunch and a turkey sandwich and chips for dinner (I often re-use almond tins instead of using plastic baggies) I packed 2 Raw Crunch Bars as snacks ๐Ÿ™‚

One more thing before I sign off. Some of you may recall that Jamie and I went to see the Justin Bieber movie a while back. Well, she posted this link on my wall this morning saying that we should have taken this little boy with us. Is he not so cute?! (You have to click through to YouTube to watch it. I don’t know why it won’t play straight to my blog. Anyway, Enjoy!)

Have a fantastic Thursday, you pretty people! ๐Ÿ˜€

Where the Heck did Tuesday Go?!

Good morning, beauties! Thanks to all of you who giggled at my Break Up post. Clearly, Running and I have a hot-and-cold relationship, but I know it’s impossible to leave forever. I’ll be trotting along and wheezing again in no time ๐Ÿ™‚

Tuesday

Yesterday was busy for me – it was 8:30 when I got home, I kept getting sidetracked and blogging didn’t happen! I woke up bright and early for some Legs & Back action with the P90X gang. My work day was rather dull, but my lunch totally made up for it.

Pepper turkey, red pepper, tomato, apple slices, mustard and 1/4 avocado on light rye bread. Grad School Gourmet, ladies and gents ๐Ÿ˜‰

I also made a little pit-stop at Target and picked up a new purse (and tried on a million cute dresses)ย Seriously, it’s impossible to walk into that store and leave empty handed.

Obviously I will not be wearing this purse across my chest and holding it’s little handles at the same time – I simply wanted to showcase it’s stunning versatility. Just wanted to clear the air on that one ๐Ÿ˜‰

The rest of my day was splendid because I spent it with my parents ๐Ÿ™‚ My dad was amazing and came and switched cars with me while I was at work and he went to get my inspection done. That saved me a lot of time! He da best. My mom also found her mother-of-the-bride dress. She looked beautiful!

My parents took me out to dinner at this fabulous restaurant in Old Town called Overwood. My mom and I have concluded that it is impossible to order a bad meal from that place.

I ordered 1/2 a roasted chicken with red skinned mashed potatoes (hiding under the chicken!) and brussel sprouts.

Would you believe that this was the first time in my life that I’d ever eaten brussel sprouts?! I see them all over my favorite blogs and I’ve been itching to try them. I wasn’t disappointed!

I was stuffed by this meal, but I wasn’t feeling too guilty about anything. I was ready to get the check and go.ย Then the waitress uttered the d-word: dessert. We rarely get dessert when we eat out. My mom does not eat sweets of any kind. Ever. It’s insane. My dad on the other hand said, “Sure! Let’s look at the options.” Damn it, Dad. How am I supposed to say no to this?

Goodness gracious. Every bite was pure bliss. What is it about a hot brownie and cold vanilla ice cream? (I don’t touch chocolate ice cream)

Today

I slept in today because I’m planning on getting a workout in before class tonight.

I made myself a big bowl of cereal and it absolutely hit the spot.

1/2 cup Quaker Oatmeal Squares, 1/2 cup Honey Nut Cheerios and 1/2 a banana + pinches of Kashi Crisp!, oats, and almond slivers. Perfection.

I hope you have ย a great day, you beautiful people! ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s chat – Do you love Target? I’m obsessed!
