Weekend Wrap Up

Hiya! Did you guys have a fun weekend? I sure did! 🙂 Saturday was spent cashing in on a Groupon that Cory and I bought a few weeks ago, and today was spent on a adventure in DC.

Let’s start with Saturday’s events, shall we?

Cory and I spent a few hours over at National Harbor at the Metropolitan Food, Libations & Luxury Home Show. Clearly, we don’t own a home – but we’ve got the food and libations part covered 😉

This is the inside of the Gaylord. It’s seriously such a neat, beautiful hotel!

Tickets to get our draannk on 😉

This is the first vendor that greeted us. Yes please!

The caramel pretzel bark was ahhhmazing.

Barbecue sause (served with non-pictured chicken sausage)

Oh my dear sweet Lord, I want a Vitamix SO badly. This guy said that he “saw my eyes light up” as we approached this station 😉 Now if only I had several hundred dollars lying around..

I’m not a beer girl – but I tasted two that I actually really liked! Agave Wheat – has anyone tried this!?

We tried brownies, chips and salsas, chocolate-covered nuts, wines, and coffees. It was a blasty blast.

Today, we experienced the most epic let down of all time.

Jamie, Cory and I hopped on the metro this morning with BIG plans. We rode into the District to fulfill one mission that I’ve been wanting to do for so long – have The Cereal Bowl for lunch.

We were stumped when we got to the address but couldn’t find the place. 3820 is what we were looking for. We were standing in front of 3816. We scanned to 3818. I let out a huge “Are you KIDDING ME?!” When we got to 3820.

We attempted to reenact our tantrum.

Defeated, we went to Clyde’s for lunch. I ordered soup because it came in a bowl, like cereal.

It didn’t make me as happy as a cereal combo would have. But of course, this did make things a little bit better.

Frozen-Yo is a pretty tasty fro-yo place in DC. I was so upset about The Cereal Bowl that I ate way too much fro-y0 to in order to compensate (the hole in my heart, clearly). This was the first time ever that I left a fro-yo place feeling gross. It was delicious while it was happening, though.

Well friends, that’s the weekend in a nutshell! I’ve got to go grocery shopping before I can retire in my comfy pants for the evening. I’ll give you one guess as to what I’m planning on having for dinner…

Let me know – On a scale of 1 – 10 (10 being FANTASTIC), how would you rate your weekend? Mine? A solid 6. Saturday was great, and I loved seeing Jamie today – but all that excitement about The Cereal Bowl just to be let down was blah.

Do You Groupon?

Good morning, beautiful people! I hope your Saturday has been lovely so far 🙂

This morning started out with a workout. A personal training shesh was going on in the small weight area of the gym, so I hopped on the elliptical for 17 minutes while I waited for them to leave – they were hogging the whole area! Rude. I then lifted weights/did a bajillion squats for 30 minutes.

This morning also marked my first homemade bowl of cereal in over a week. 1/2 cup quaker oatmeal squares + 1/2 cup vanilla almond special k + 1/2 a banana.

*Cue angles sining* It was glorious.

Cory and I are headed over to National Harbor in MD this afternoon to use up a sweet Groupon deal I bought a couple of weeks ago. God, I LOVE Groupon. We got tickets to the Metropolitan Food, Libations & Luxury Home Show for $9.  It’s held at the Gaylord National Hotel which is gorgeous.

There were several key points that persuaded me to purchase this Groupon –

  • Attendees can drink and dine their way through 250 exhibits
  • The day is sound tracked by live jazz and Latin music
  • Liquor tasting stations
  • Fine wine tastings
  • Gourmet pretzels and savory sauces to southern peanuts and flat bread-banana cake, culinary connoisseurs can celebrate complexly satisfying samples, which are also available for purchase.

Yeah, that said – I’m outta here! Enjoy your day!!

I want to know – Do you use Groupon And Living Social? They are awesome!

Upside Down Oats

How do you screw up something as easy as overnight oats? I don’t know what happened, all I know is that I was so looking forward to some cold oats after my workout this morning.

Thanks to Spring Break, I was able to wake up without an alarm 🙂 I made my way over to the gym and did hill intervals on the treadmill for 25 minutes and ended with 15 minutes of strength and stretching. I really, really wish I liked running. I try so hard. I just do not get any sort of enjoyment out of it. But I do it because I know it’s good for me.

So I got back to the apartment, registered for my summer class, and went to the fridge to pull out my beloved overnight oats. They looked normal, but when I went to stir them up…things weren’t so normal.

Yes, these are my upside down overnight oats. How the hell did this happen? Hmph.

I was borderline hangry, so I fixed up a nice bowl of cereal and enjoyed it almost as much.

Oatmeal squares, Honey Nut Cheerios, a couple Mini Wheaties, half a banana and some mixed nuts. It hit the spot, even if I was a little pouty about it 😉

I’ve got to go get ready for the day! I can’t believe it’s almost 10:00 and I’m not showered (TMI?) I’m meeting up with my mom this afternoon to go shopping for her dress for the wedding. It’s been tough – it seems like all the MOB dresses out there are a little too mom-ish if that makes any sense. All my mom keeps saying is “I’m NOT wearing a bolero jacket!” 🙂

Enjoy your day, friends! I’ll catch ya a little later today!

Let’s chat – What’s the last food fail you had? Do you like running? (give me some tips to trick myself into enjoying it!!) Do you like shopping? I could do it all day, but my mom isn’t so crazy about it.

National Cereal Day!!

Yes, friends. It’s true! Today is National Cereal Day 😀 This day is meant to celebrate the invention of Corn Flakes by John and William Kellogg in 1897.

While I’m not a Corn Flakes girl, you all know that I can’t function without cereal.

Speaking of cereal, you can make your breakfast go a long way! Cory’s mom let me know about Kellogg’s Share Your Breakfast campaign, and it’s awesome! All you have to do it take a picture of your breakfast and upload it on this site. One breakfast picture = One breakfast given to a school child who might otherwise go without. It’ll take you 2 minutes, really! All us bloggers out there who snap pictures of our daily eats have no excuse NOT to do this 🙂

I hope you “celebrate” National Cereal Day well! (With lots and lots of cereal, of course!) 🙂

Let’s chat: What’s your favorite cereal today? What was your favorite cereal as a kid?
