This afternoon I had to say farewell (for now) to my BFF, Jamie 😦 Her brother is getting married this weekend and then she’s headed back to live in Richmond for the summer.
Of course we had to have frozen yogurt as our goodbye snack 😉 My favorite fro-yo place in Richmond just opened a shop in my neck of the woods! It’s a good day, my friends.
Surprising Afternoon Workout
Some of you may know that I’m usually an AM workout gal, but it wasn’t in the cards this morning. So after my fro-yo extravaganza, I made a pit-stop at the gym and was able to get in a 4-mile run.
Can you believe that? I sure can’t. I was just trotting along, and when I got to about 2.5 miles I realized I wasn’t really tired. I even ran one mile at 7.0 mph, which is a little bit faster than my comfortable 6.3 mph. I was proud of myself!
Couches, Tables and Beds, Oh My!
Cory and I spent the evening furniture shopping. Woah. Doin’ big things, I know. But as lame as furniture shopping may sound, it was actually exciting! I’ve never owned my own furniture and I’ve never owned anything with Cory – so this is all very fun 😀
All that sitting on couches and Ooohh-ing and Ahhh-ing over memory foam beds worked up our appetites. Once we got in the car my hanger level was at a solid 7, so I told Cory “just make a decision. I don’t care what or where we eat.”
He made a good decision! El Fresco it was! 🙂 I ordered two soft grilled chicken tacos with black beans and rice. Delish.
I know it is Mexican food, and I understand that many would dispute the healthiness of it all, but the ingredients are always so fresh here!
Look at that fresh salsa, fresh guac and grilled chicken. I’m also a huge fan of black beans – so all in all, I left stuffed, but I didn’t feel totally bad about it 🙂
Now my night includes doing a whole lotta nothin’! I hope you’ve enjoyed your day, friends!
Let’s chat – Do you live near your best friend? Mexican vs Indian food?
Hey there! Thanks so much for all of your good luck vibes you sent me this morning 🙂 Overall, I think they worked!
When I Googled the place of my interview this morning, I thought no sweat.
I know you may be thinking But, Colleen, you get lost in your own home.
Yes, yes. While that is a slightly fabricated statement, it rarely occurs that I venture to a new place alone and feel confident in my directional abilities.
But Google maps told me my destination was only 3 minutes and two turns away. How could anyone mess that up?
Oh, that’s right. I could.
Good thing I left myself 45 minutes to find my way to a building that was 2.1 miles away from my home.
On my first attempt, I missed the turn. I said to my GPS, No Gertrude. You can’t possibly be right about this one.
Who am I to tell Gerty that she’s wrong?!
After she said route recalculation for the 5th time in her annoyed British accent, (yes, I know she was annoyed) I decided to pay attention. I ended up doing a huge loop only to come back to the left turn that Gertrude had suggested in the first place.
And I took it. And she was right. Go figure.
At this point I still had 20-ish minutes to find the actual building. And yes, I did stop a man in a suit to ask if he could “point me in the right direction” after I had turned off Gertrude in a fit of rage.
To make a short story long, I ended up on time.
Just a little sweaty.
The interview went swimmingly and I’ve been asked back for a second interview 🙂 So here’s the deal: I don’t really want to celebrate this call back yet. And I contemplated not saying anything because if I don’t get the job, I’ll feel stupid.
But, such is life. Everyone has interviews. Some go well and some don’t. I’m thrilled I was asked back, but I’m also finding a sense of calmness in the cliche: If it’s meant to be, it will be.
Now I’m going to enjoy my fine dinner and get on my way to volunteer!
PS – Sorry for the lack of photos. I’m in a Panera and my computer is running so slowly!
Let’s chat – Are you good with directions? Do you ever eat out at a restaurant alone? I’m eating out alone tonight, and I kind of enjoyed it! Not something I do on the reg., but it wasn’t too shabby 🙂
Good evening, my friends!! I loved reading about all your love letters!
To tell the truth…I had margaritas at a 4:30 happy hour – and I asked the waitress if she was in charge of how much tequila went into my drinks. She thought I was weird.
To tell the truth…I made a meal out of sides at said happy hour: A sweet potato and veggies.
To tell the truth…I like smiling. Smiling’s my favorite.
Okay, I don’t dress like Buddy the Elf and eat sugar for breakfast, lunch and dinner – but I am a huge fan of the smile.
I used to be the person who looked down, at my phone, or at the wind when I passed strangers on the street. For some crazy reason, I avoided eye-contact. Then one day a friend told me “When I first met you, I took you for a total bitch.” I was floored! Me? A total bitch?
She said it’s because I looked mean.
I’m not a naturally bubbly, giggly girl. I’m happy, but I don’t sit around giggling or walking around with a gaping smile plastered on my face.
After I realized I looked mean, I stopped avoiding eye-contact with strangers. I actually now play a game to see how many people I can smile at and get one in return.
99% of the time, it works every time 😉
Let’s chat – Has anyone ever told you something about yourself that shocked you? What’s your favorite happy hour drink?
Birthdays are a big deal in my world. I am a huge birthday diva and insist on celebrating a birthday week. Yeah, it happens.
Cory is no such diva.
But because it’s hard to celebrate a birthday on a Monday – darn that work thing – we did most of the celebrating this weekend 🙂
On Saturday morning, we ventured into DC and visited the Spy Museum!
Unfortunately, no pictures were allowed inside. Let me tell you, though – is a very huge, very cool museum.
We learned so much about spies! I’m considering dropping out of my counseling program and starting a career of espionage. How does Special Agent Lunchbox sound? 😉
After the spy museum, we stopped by our favorite DC fro-yo shop!
Cheesecake fro-yo for lunch makes for two very happy campers 😀
We spent the afternoon lounging around before getting dressed up for birthday surprise #2 – dinner at Texas de Brazil! I don’t know about you, but I love getting a little dolled up and going out to dinner.
We tried our best to play around with the self-timer just for this little blog 😉
We’re looking in to hiring a personal photographer 😉 We just don’t have the self-timer skills.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Texas de Brazil, it’s literally a meat fest. Men walk around with huge skewers of meat like this
And just keep slicing you pieces until you say stop. I did not partake in the meat fest, as their “salad” bar is top notch. Salmon pieces, cheeses, breads, olives, pastas, veggies…
I mean, how many salad bars have you seen that look like this?
I made two trips during Cory’s meat extravaganza. While I didn’t take the meat-route, I did eat an alarming amount of cheese and bread. I really think the restaurant should invest in stretchers to roll people out of there. We were stuffed!
Now it’s back to reality for the next 8 hours before I head over to Cory’s for more birthday celebrations – his parents are coming to town!
Happy, happy birthday, Cory! I hope 25 is the best year yet!
Let’s chat – When’s YOUR birthday? Mine is October 5th!
Hello, beautiful people! Happy Saturday to you 🙂
I’ve got a very busy day planned with my birthday boy (man? guy?) so I’ve got to make this post a quick one 🙂
Friday (Did anyone else start singing Rebecca Black when you read that word? Gag me.)
Last night, Cory and I made our way over to the little farmer’s market that sets up shop across the street from his place. My favorite vendor, Great Harvest, was there handing out thick slices of cinnamon swirl bread.
The crust was heavenly.
The flower vendors also made me happy.
Cory and I had plans to make dinner, but time got away from us. Deciding Oh yeah, I’m starving. Let’s start dinner doesn’t really fly in these parts. Hanger gets real serious. So when Chinese was suggested, it was a no brainer.
I had the chicken and broccoli and Cory had the General Tso’s. To-go boxes were requested almost immediately. That’s a lotta food!
Today Cory and I are venturing into DC to go to a pretty awesome museum (they do exist) and then we have dinner reservations at his favorite place. Updates to come! 😀
Enjoy your Saturday, friends! I’ll catch ya later!
Let’s chat – Chinese food: Yay or nay?
Hello, friends!! How is everyone’s Thursday going? Mine is going fabulously, especially since I was able to get my Longwood fix 🙂
I arrived into town around 10:45 AM and I was literally squealing out of excitement alone in my car. It’s just a happy place. Any other Longwood student/alum would tell you that, too 🙂
My first stop was to the psychology department to say hello to my two favorite professors and Miss Joyce, the heart and brains behind the department 🙂 One of my professors & Miss Joyce said they read the blog (hi!) – and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I mean really, that’s neat.
Lunch was a BLT at a personal favorite hole-in-the-wall, Merk’s. Oh, so good.
We ended up spending the afternoon laying out in the sun, sipping adult lemonades. I don’t know about you, but I think hard lemonade is a gift from God.
After we came inside, it was clearly time to start getting ready to go eat and drink in another location.
La Parota it was! Shocking, I know. But really, how can you go wrong with chips & salsa, soft tacos and margs? The answer is, you can’t.
As an aside – Jamie and I weren’t on a romantic date all day yesterday. I swear there were other people with us.
After dinner we bee-lined it to the bar. The Bar, because it is truly the only bar in Farmville. We met up with some more sorority sisters and had a grand ol’ time. I’m sorry I didn’t think to get pictures of the ladies on the other side of the table. I’m a silly bitch.
I was lovin’ myself by 7:30. That’s a success in my book.
Ah yes, it was wonderful to back.
Hi, friends! Long time no see! Sorry I was MIA yesterday. I was up early to catch my flight to Ohio and didn’t stop until I went to bed 🙂
This morning we were up and out by 4:30 AM, landed at 7:30, got home and tried to go back to bed and then went out for Mother’s Day brunch – so now is the first time I’ve checked my email, blog, etc. since Friday! (I think I was going through withdrawals 😉 ) Needless to say, I’m a little exhausted!
My cousin’s bridal shower was lovely! Her MOH did a fantastic job putting everything together.
There was tons of great food – and believe it or not, I only got two pictures of the whole day! I tried to take pictures of Lauren opening presents, but they all came out dark and/or blurry. What a bummer.
This cream-sickle cheese cake was deeelicious!
We played a few cute games like, How Well Do You Know the Bride?, Bridal MadLib, and a bridal word scramble. Then it was time to open presents! It was so funny to learn that Lauren and I both hate opening presents in front of people. It makes us so nervous! I was glad to see her do it a month before me. If she survived, I know I will too 🙂
Like I said earlier, this morning my dad took us out to breakfast. As you may remember from Friday – I love going out to breakfast 😀
I ordered a delicious veggies omelete with rye toast. My favorite!
Now I’m back over on my side of town about to go run some errands with Cory. I can’t believe that it was one year ago today that I graduated and got engaged to my best friend. Talk about the best day ever!
This picture makes me smile every time 🙂
We’ll friends, I’m out for now! If you’re a mother, happy Mother’s Day! I hope each of you are surrounded with ones you love today (and always)
Let’s chat – Did you get your mom anything for Mother’s Day? My brother and I got my mom a new camera! Does opening presents in front of people make you nervous? Uh. Heck yes!
