Hi, friends! Long time no see! Sorry I was MIA yesterday. I was up early to catch my flight to Ohio and didn’t stop until I went to bed 🙂
This morning we were up and out by 4:30 AM, landed at 7:30, got home and tried to go back to bed and then went out for Mother’s Day brunch – so now is the first time I’ve checked my email, blog, etc. since Friday! (I think I was going through withdrawals 😉 ) Needless to say, I’m a little exhausted!
My cousin’s bridal shower was lovely! Her MOH did a fantastic job putting everything together.
There was tons of great food – and believe it or not, I only got two pictures of the whole day! I tried to take pictures of Lauren opening presents, but they all came out dark and/or blurry. What a bummer.
This cream-sickle cheese cake was deeelicious!
We played a few cute games like, How Well Do You Know the Bride?, Bridal MadLib, and a bridal word scramble. Then it was time to open presents! It was so funny to learn that Lauren and I both hate opening presents in front of people. It makes us so nervous! I was glad to see her do it a month before me. If she survived, I know I will too 🙂
Like I said earlier, this morning my dad took us out to breakfast. As you may remember from Friday – I love going out to breakfast 😀
I ordered a delicious veggies omelete with rye toast. My favorite!
Now I’m back over on my side of town about to go run some errands with Cory. I can’t believe that it was one year ago today that I graduated and got engaged to my best friend. Talk about the best day ever!
This picture makes me smile every time 🙂
We’ll friends, I’m out for now! If you’re a mother, happy Mother’s Day! I hope each of you are surrounded with ones you love today (and always)
Let’s chat – Did you get your mom anything for Mother’s Day? My brother and I got my mom a new camera! Does opening presents in front of people make you nervous? Uh. Heck yes!
Hello, hello! Whelp, we made it back by 9:30 last night. Just about 12 hours shy of when our day at the airport started. I almost wept tears of joy when the gate agent called our last name 😉
On to more exciting things. This weekend was an absolute blast! We had no trouble getting there, which was fantastic.
We spent the rest of the afternoon soaking up the sun, enjoying beverages and laughing until our sides hurt. Apparently, I was also glued to my glass the entire day.
After the sun set, we figured it was time to come inside and start eating! We had some fab BBQ along with a few other tasty sides.
Over the past four years, I’ve realized that UF folk love all things blue and orange. Even down to the cupcakes. Hey, I didn’t hate it 😉
Lindsay’s graduation was at 6 PM on Saturday, so we spent the morning relaxing with a manicure and pedicure. We had lunch at this great restaurant that served tons of “Southern comfort” type meals. I ended up getting a salad, but I tried a bite of my first fried green tomato and it was tasty!
After we ate our fill, we took some pictures with The Graduate. She looked beautiful, per the usual – and I was very proud of my UF inspired outfit 😉
The graduation was surprisingly quick. We got home much earlier than we expected, which was good because we were able to stayed up chatting, eating and drinking before calling it a night. We had to get up pretty early to
sit in an airport all day fly home.
And now, here I am! Back in good ol’ Northern Virginia ready to start another week! I love going on trips, but the first day back to reality is always a little rough for me. I just want to still be on vacation mode 😉
Vacation mode or not, I’m off to earn some dolla bills 😉 I’ll catch up with you soon! Enjoy your day!
Let’s chat – Is the first day back from vay-cay a struggle for you too? How’s your Monday looking? Busy? Laid back? Let me know!
Happy belated Easter, my friends! Whether you celebrate the day or not, I hope you had a great weekend 🙂
Mine was fantastic. It was filled with family, relaxation and a whole lotta food. It was wonderful! I think it’s perfectly acceptable to loosen the belt buckle and throw caution to the wind every now and then and just enjoy food. And that’s exactly what happened this weekend 😉
Don’t mind me. I’m a 23-year-old who still enjoys coloring eggs…
I’m also a 23-year-old who still gets excited about an Easter basket! 🙂
I think the Easter Bunny reads this blog and knows that I’m learning to bake 😉
Let me tell you something. Cory’s mom is the Hostess with the Mostest. She is the Detail Queen and I love it! I mean seriously. Look at the table settings she created.
Too cute right?
And the food was fabulous. I pulled the I’ll try a little bit of everything that’s on the table card.
Looking at this picture, I realize that this serving makes me seems quite anal. I’m swear I’m not a 5-year-old. I really don’t mind if my foods touch 😉
I also went to town on desserts. But let me just highlight my favorite. Enter: a ball of red velvet cake that was rolled in cheesecake, that was then rolled in graham cracker crumbs, that was then dipped in white chocolate. Heaven on a stick? I think so.
I’m certain I will be dreaming of these.
Cory didn’t want to keep a lot of the candy in our Easter basket, so guess who it came home with? This girl. Who has sticky fingers around sweets. I have to take precautionary measures when left alone with bags of candy.
I measure out serving sizes and put them in separate baggies so when I do want a little treat, I can grab and go.
Otherwise I will devour an entire bag of Starburst jellybeans in one sitting. And then I’ll try to convince myself that because they’re so tiny, they can’t possibly have any substantial caloric impact…
Let’s chat – What’s your favorite Easter candy? Starburst jellybeans. Duh.
Hiya, pretty people! How the heck are ya?! I’m pretty great 🙂 I spent yesterday afternoon running errands with my mom. I bought several adorable dresses, but since they’ll be making appearances soon-ish, I’m refraining from posting them. But I was thrilled with my shopping success!
Last night, I finally got to see my grandma! She lives here in NOVA, but she’s one lucky bird who migrates to Florida during the winter. She leaves right after Christmas, and I hadn’t seen her since then!
I’m glad she’s back. I need a little more bad-ass in my life 😉
Oh. Hm. Good question, Grandma. To be honest, I didn’t have a good response. “Um, I’m not weird. I swear there’s a big community of people who like that stuff” is the best I could come up with.
So, for today’s post, my input is simple. I’m kind of relying on you readers to help me answer my grandma’s question – and to help me come up with a better future response! I hope you can help me out!
Why do you read my blog, or other blogs in general? If you blog, why do you do it? Obviously you’re a blog reader, so why do you care about what other bloggers are doing?
Hello, hello!! Oh, it feels so good to wake up knowing it’s Friday, doesn’t it? 😀 It also feels good to know that so many of my blog friends are fellow bag ladies! My back and arms are sore this morning, and it’s concerning because I don’t know if it’s from my workout, or from carrying 5 bags around all day.
After work yesterday, I stopped by the Health & Fitness Expo on campus, which was really cool. What was less cool – the student at the check-in table gave me a free water bottle – and a free bag. Are you joking?! Does it look like I need a new bag? Who am I kidding? It was free. I took it.
While free things make me happy, there’s something much happier in my world today.
MY BROTHER IS HOME!! 😀 Brian and I are very close in age and he’s truly one of my best friends (but don’t let him know that 😉 ) He’s a busy senior at ODU and I haven’t seen him in two months! I called him last night after class, and to my surprise, he was already at my parent’s!
I’ll be headed over there soon, and we decided Panera would be on the schedule for lunch. He has a slight obsession with their broccoli cheddar bread bowls..
Brian is so funny, and he’s a good sport who reads my blog so I’m going to see if I can talk him into doing a vlog with me. But what to talk about?!
Enjoy your Friday, my friends! If you’re working or schooling, I hope the day flies by and you’re relaxing in no time 😉
Good morning, beauties! Thanks to all of you who giggled at my Break Up post. Clearly, Running and I have a hot-and-cold relationship, but I know it’s impossible to leave forever. I’ll be trotting along and wheezing again in no time 🙂
Yesterday was busy for me – it was 8:30 when I got home, I kept getting sidetracked and blogging didn’t happen! I woke up bright and early for some Legs & Back action with the P90X gang. My work day was rather dull, but my lunch totally made up for it.
I also made a little pit-stop at Target and picked up a new purse (and tried on a million cute dresses) Seriously, it’s impossible to walk into that store and leave empty handed.
Obviously I will not be wearing this purse across my chest and holding it’s little handles at the same time – I simply wanted to showcase it’s stunning versatility. Just wanted to clear the air on that one 😉
The rest of my day was splendid because I spent it with my parents 🙂 My dad was amazing and came and switched cars with me while I was at work and he went to get my inspection done. That saved me a lot of time! He da best. My mom also found her mother-of-the-bride dress. She looked beautiful!
My parents took me out to dinner at this fabulous restaurant in Old Town called Overwood. My mom and I have concluded that it is impossible to order a bad meal from that place.
I ordered 1/2 a roasted chicken with red skinned mashed potatoes (hiding under the chicken!) and brussel sprouts.
Would you believe that this was the first time in my life that I’d ever eaten brussel sprouts?! I see them all over my favorite blogs and I’ve been itching to try them. I wasn’t disappointed!
I was stuffed by this meal, but I wasn’t feeling too guilty about anything. I was ready to get the check and go. Then the waitress uttered the d-word: dessert. We rarely get dessert when we eat out. My mom does not eat sweets of any kind. Ever. It’s insane. My dad on the other hand said, “Sure! Let’s look at the options.” Damn it, Dad. How am I supposed to say no to this?
I slept in today because I’m planning on getting a workout in before class tonight.
I made myself a big bowl of cereal and it absolutely hit the spot.
I hope you have a great day, you beautiful people! 🙂
Let’s chat – Do you love Target? I’m obsessed!
Hey hey, blog friends!! I hope your day has been fabulous! Because I was so busy this weekend, I didn’t keep up with my 30 day picture challenge. So let’s pick up where we left off, shall we?
Day 16 is a picture of your day. I thought it might be fun to recap my day in a couple pictures 🙂
Lunch was a smoothie – 1/2 a banana, frozen blueberries, 1 tablespoon of Nutella, 3/4 cup milk, a tablespoon of Vanilla Chobani and a hand full of ice cubes 🙂
The afternoon was spent with my mom shopping for her Mother of the Bride dress. We were unsuccessful, but it was fun! (Sorry for the unevenness of the dress. This was the only place in the dressing room with enough light!)
I got some fantastic samples of Gnu Food bars. They are so delish! Stay tuned for a give away! 😉
Cory and I made a tasty dinner of whole wheat penne, tomato sauce, grilled chicken, broccoli, yellow peppers and onion. It was so simple, yet so good!
We went out to the Apple store (again) to see what time they’re opening tomorrow and we passed a candy store (Cory’s favorite thing) on our way out. Obviously we had to stop in 😉
I wasn’t in the mood for candy, so my after dinner treat was an apple and Nutella.
Now I’m relaxing and getting ready to start a book for a paper that’s due next week. Good thing it actually seems interesting 🙂
Enjoy the rest of your night! 😀
Let’s chat – What’s the last book you read? Gummy/fruity candy vs chocolate? Have you ever had a Gnu Food bar?
How do you screw up something as easy as overnight oats? I don’t know what happened, all I know is that I was so looking forward to some cold oats after my workout this morning.
Thanks to Spring Break, I was able to wake up without an alarm 🙂 I made my way over to the gym and did hill intervals on the treadmill for 25 minutes and ended with 15 minutes of strength and stretching. I really, really wish I liked running. I try so hard. I just do not get any sort of enjoyment out of it. But I do it because I know it’s good for me.
So I got back to the apartment, registered for my summer class, and went to the fridge to pull out my beloved overnight oats. They looked normal, but when I went to stir them up…things weren’t so normal.
Yes, these are my upside down overnight oats. How the hell did this happen? Hmph.
I was borderline hangry, so I fixed up a nice bowl of cereal and enjoyed it almost as much.
Oatmeal squares, Honey Nut Cheerios, a couple Mini Wheaties, half a banana and some mixed nuts. It hit the spot, even if I was a little pouty about it 😉
I’ve got to go get ready for the day! I can’t believe it’s almost 10:00 and I’m not showered (TMI?) I’m meeting up with my mom this afternoon to go shopping for her dress for the wedding. It’s been tough – it seems like all the MOB dresses out there are a little too mom-ish if that makes any sense. All my mom keeps saying is “I’m NOT wearing a bolero jacket!” 🙂
Enjoy your day, friends! I’ll catch ya a little later today!
Let’s chat – What’s the last food fail you had? Do you like running? (give me some tips to trick myself into enjoying it!!) Do you like shopping? I could do it all day, but my mom isn’t so crazy about it.
Goodness gracious! Is it raining where you are?! It’s nasty outside here in Northern VA. When I woke up this morning I told myself I would dedicate a good chunk of my day to writing a paper. But as I started reading journal articles (one of my least favorite things ever) I realized “Hey, this isn’t due for over a month. What the hell am I doing?”
So scratch the paper-writing agenda 🙂 I’m cleaning, packing for this weekend and watching Modern Family. All very important things.
Lunch today was a Kashi meal. Have you ever had their frozen meals? They’re actually really good. I had the Pesto Pasta Primavera. 290 calories. That’s not too shabby for a pasta dish. Am I right?
Today we’re half way though the 30 Day Picture Challenge! Day 15 is – a picture of you and a family member
Family is a huge part of my life. My mom’s side of the family is rather large, loud and proud of who we are 🙂 My mom has seven brothers. Six married, and that resulted in 11 grandchildren. I’m extremely blessed with such a great family.
This was taken at my Grandma’s 80th birthday party. It’s the most recent one I have of all of us (well, 3 are missing).
Let’s chat – What’s your family like? Big or small? Close or distant (location wise)?
…and the only cure is: more Bieber!
Let me preface this story with some facts:
- I am in fact 23 years old
- I did in fact know who Justin Bieber was before last night..
- ..But I only knew one of his songs
- I did spend$12.50 to see his movie
- And now, I’ll Never Say Never
Jamie and I had lunch on Sunday and we both confessed that we wanted to see Justin Bieber’s movie. We decided that since neither of us have little sisters, therefore no legitimate excuse to go see it, we would just swallow our pride and go in as a team 🙂
Well, forget the team plan. Jamie got stuck in traffic on the way to the theatre for our 4:50 showing of Justin Bieber Never Say Never (in 3D no less) so I decided I’d just buy the tickets, NBD.
But then I actually had to walk up to the counter and ask, as a 23 year old, for two tickets to “the, um, Justin Bieber movie?” It was much more awkward than I had anticipated.
All of my awkward feelings disappeared the moment the movie girl handed me our 3D glasses – I was pumped. Thank goodness Jamie was too. What are BFFs for anyway?
Please note my actual glasses under my 3D glasses. It was a tough adjustment, but totally worth it – as the Biebs and I practically held hands thanks to the magic that is 3D.
Jamie and I sang and danced our way through the two hour film. We were embarrassed? Of course not! Why?
Because we were the only ones in the entire theatre. Wow. Just..wow.
All kidding aside, we really had a fun time. I don’t really have Bieber Fever, but I can appreciate the Biebs’ story. He got discovered because his mom posted videos of him on youtube for family members to see, and tweenage girls ate it up. And that was that.
Plus, he’s just so stinkin’ cute! The interview footage with the tween fans in braces and homemade “Mrs. Bieber” t-shirts going banana sandwich when asked about Justin Bieber was outrageously hilarious. It was also fun because it totally reminded me of being 10 years old and flipping out over Zac Hanson. I mean, I was sure that we were going to wed 😉
After Justin’s encore of “Baby” – which we sang along to with the help of 3D lyrics (Sorry for the blurry outcome – I was laughing 🙂 )
We headed over to the Chipotle next door. It was delish! I got a veggie bowl with a little rice, black beans, grilled veggies, tomato salsa, a pinch of cheese, guac, and lettuce. I’m still stuffed!
What a delicious way to end the night! Seriously, there is no one else that I would have gone to that movie with. We laughed the entire time. If you have nothing to do one night and want to have a good laugh with some girlfriends and take a trip down memory lane (if you ever loved a boy-band, that is) J. Beiebs is actually pretty fun. Don’t knock it til ya try it 🙂
Let’s chat – Am I the only one that saw this movie? Did you like a boy band(s) when you were younger? I think I single-handedly kept Tiger Beat in business in 1997 🙂
