Hi, friends! Long time no see 🙂 I didn’t post yesterday because my day was jam-packed busy. So, let’s go through the highlights, shall we?
Cory and I went to Jason’s Deli for dinner on Friday and it was stellar. I think I may have found my new favorite sandwich
We also stopped by Sweet Frog for a little treat.
This was my second visit in two days – concern? I like self-serve fro-yo because I can get just enough to hit the spot. Usually when I order pre-made desserts, they’re of behemoth stature and they can be a total waistline danger.
Home Away From Home
The bulk of our weekend has been spent in furniture stores. I had dreams of laying by the pool and soaking up the
skin cancer sun, but alas – Real Life stepped in the way.
Here’s the thing. Brand new furniture is expensive. At 23 and 25 years old, Cory and I do pretty well for ourselves, but we’re in no means rollin’ in the dough.
After a certain point, I just want to find something and buy it. I’m also easily persuaded by salespeople. I’m so grateful that Cory has enough sense to actually shop around before dropping several thousand dollars 😉
Oh my GOD! I have spent an embarrassing amount of time in the past two days watching season 1. I read the Other Bolyen Girl a few years ago and have been obsessed with the Tudors ever sense. I don’t know why I never watched this show. Maybe because it should be X-rated?
So before we head out for the day, I got up and spent about 40 minutes in the gym lifting weights and completing a quick mile and half run.
I refueled with a huge green monster and the comics 🙂
Into the green monster went:
- A handful of ice cubes
- 1 banana
- A huge handful of spinach
- Handful of blueberries
- 1 tbsp PB
Okay folks! That’s where we are up to this point! I keep forgetting that the weekend isn’t actually over today. It’s like Saturday Round 2 😀
I hope you are all enjoying your holiday weekend!!
Let’s chat –
Have you seen The Tudors?
Ever been to Jason’s Deli?
If you’ve ever shopped for furniture – is it something you love or loath?
This afternoon I had to say farewell (for now) to my BFF, Jamie 😦 Her brother is getting married this weekend and then she’s headed back to live in Richmond for the summer.
Of course we had to have frozen yogurt as our goodbye snack 😉 My favorite fro-yo place in Richmond just opened a shop in my neck of the woods! It’s a good day, my friends.
Surprising Afternoon Workout
Some of you may know that I’m usually an AM workout gal, but it wasn’t in the cards this morning. So after my fro-yo extravaganza, I made a pit-stop at the gym and was able to get in a 4-mile run.
Can you believe that? I sure can’t. I was just trotting along, and when I got to about 2.5 miles I realized I wasn’t really tired. I even ran one mile at 7.0 mph, which is a little bit faster than my comfortable 6.3 mph. I was proud of myself!
Couches, Tables and Beds, Oh My!
Cory and I spent the evening furniture shopping. Woah. Doin’ big things, I know. But as lame as furniture shopping may sound, it was actually exciting! I’ve never owned my own furniture and I’ve never owned anything with Cory – so this is all very fun 😀
All that sitting on couches and Ooohh-ing and Ahhh-ing over memory foam beds worked up our appetites. Once we got in the car my hanger level was at a solid 7, so I told Cory “just make a decision. I don’t care what or where we eat.”
He made a good decision! El Fresco it was! 🙂 I ordered two soft grilled chicken tacos with black beans and rice. Delish.
I know it is Mexican food, and I understand that many would dispute the healthiness of it all, but the ingredients are always so fresh here!
Look at that fresh salsa, fresh guac and grilled chicken. I’m also a huge fan of black beans – so all in all, I left stuffed, but I didn’t feel totally bad about it 🙂
Now my night includes doing a whole lotta nothin’! I hope you’ve enjoyed your day, friends!
Let’s chat – Do you live near your best friend? Mexican vs Indian food?
Oh hayyy, girlfrans. I’m glad to report that we all survived the bachelorette party 🙂 It was a raging good time had by all!
Everyone showed up before Caitlin, the bride-to-be, so we could set up the hotel suite with fun decorations.
Once Caitlin arrived, we snacked, chatted and quenched our thirst. Ashley made sangria that was absolutely on point. Take this glass and multiply it by 3 to estimate my serving size 😉
I was also super glad when I check my cell phone at 6:02 and realized we had escaped The Rapture unscathed.
Whew. That was close 😉
After a while we all got dressed up and made our way downtown for more food, more drinks and more fun.
I was also pleased to find out that there was a makeshift Longwood reunion at the bar. I was so excited to see Emily and Megan!!
Needless to say, I’m a little tuckered out, so I’m going to take it easy for the rest of the day. I hope you have had an awesome weekend!
I’ll catch you guys later!
Let’s chat – Are you a fan of sangria? What was the best thing you did this weekend?
GooOoOd morning, beautiful people! I’m feeling extra chipper this morning 😀
Maybe it’s because when I walked outside, I saw blue skies for the first time in seven days.
Or maybe it’s because I had a really intense run that left me feeling like I kicked my own ass.
Or maybe it’s because I had my free sample of Quaker Oatmeal Squares fo’ breakfast.
I love being a Clever Girl.
I mean, who wouldn’t want to get two little boxes of their favorite cereal in the mail?
Like I said, I had a really great run on the treadmill this morning.
Woah. Did my fingers really just type that sentence?
I did the 5-4-3-2-1 sequence twice through and it was tough, but I was proud that I pushed myself. Every time I get to that minute at 8.0, I pray to God that I a) don’t vomit and b) don’t fall. So far so good 😉
Cory and I are headed to Richmond this afternoon. We have a meeting at 7 AM tomorrow (say whaaa??) to go over liturgy and music for the wedding mass. Oddly enough, I’m looking forward to it.
I’m also going to Richmond for a good friend’s bachelorette party! I’m pretty excited. I’ve never been to one, but I’m highly confident that a good time will ensue 😉
I’m off to get some errands done! I’ll catch you guys later this afternoon!
Let’s chat – Has the weather been extra crappy where you live? It’s been raining every day for like a week! Have you ever been to a bachelorette party?
Birthdays are a big deal in my world. I am a huge birthday diva and insist on celebrating a birthday week. Yeah, it happens.
Cory is no such diva.
But because it’s hard to celebrate a birthday on a Monday – darn that work thing – we did most of the celebrating this weekend 🙂
On Saturday morning, we ventured into DC and visited the Spy Museum!
Unfortunately, no pictures were allowed inside. Let me tell you, though – is a very huge, very cool museum.
We learned so much about spies! I’m considering dropping out of my counseling program and starting a career of espionage. How does Special Agent Lunchbox sound? 😉
After the spy museum, we stopped by our favorite DC fro-yo shop!
Cheesecake fro-yo for lunch makes for two very happy campers 😀
We spent the afternoon lounging around before getting dressed up for birthday surprise #2 – dinner at Texas de Brazil! I don’t know about you, but I love getting a little dolled up and going out to dinner.
We tried our best to play around with the self-timer just for this little blog 😉
We’re looking in to hiring a personal photographer 😉 We just don’t have the self-timer skills.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Texas de Brazil, it’s literally a meat fest. Men walk around with huge skewers of meat like this
And just keep slicing you pieces until you say stop. I did not partake in the meat fest, as their “salad” bar is top notch. Salmon pieces, cheeses, breads, olives, pastas, veggies…
I mean, how many salad bars have you seen that look like this?
I made two trips during Cory’s meat extravaganza. While I didn’t take the meat-route, I did eat an alarming amount of cheese and bread. I really think the restaurant should invest in stretchers to roll people out of there. We were stuffed!
Now it’s back to reality for the next 8 hours before I head over to Cory’s for more birthday celebrations – his parents are coming to town!
Happy, happy birthday, Cory! I hope 25 is the best year yet!
Let’s chat – When’s YOUR birthday? Mine is October 5th!
Remember to keep a sense of humor.
Enjoy your Sunday! I’ll be back with a birthday weekend wrap up tomorrow morning!
Hello, friends!! How is everyone’s Thursday going? Mine is going fabulously, especially since I was able to get my Longwood fix 🙂
I arrived into town around 10:45 AM and I was literally squealing out of excitement alone in my car. It’s just a happy place. Any other Longwood student/alum would tell you that, too 🙂
My first stop was to the psychology department to say hello to my two favorite professors and Miss Joyce, the heart and brains behind the department 🙂 One of my professors & Miss Joyce said they read the blog (hi!) – and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I mean really, that’s neat.
Lunch was a BLT at a personal favorite hole-in-the-wall, Merk’s. Oh, so good.
We ended up spending the afternoon laying out in the sun, sipping adult lemonades. I don’t know about you, but I think hard lemonade is a gift from God.
After we came inside, it was clearly time to start getting ready to go eat and drink in another location.
La Parota it was! Shocking, I know. But really, how can you go wrong with chips & salsa, soft tacos and margs? The answer is, you can’t.
As an aside – Jamie and I weren’t on a romantic date all day yesterday. I swear there were other people with us.
After dinner we bee-lined it to the bar. The Bar, because it is truly the only bar in Farmville. We met up with some more sorority sisters and had a grand ol’ time. I’m sorry I didn’t think to get pictures of the ladies on the other side of the table. I’m a silly bitch.
I was lovin’ myself by 7:30. That’s a success in my book.
Ah yes, it was wonderful to back.
Hello, beautiful people! How’s everyone feeling on this fine Tuesday? Okay, even as I type that, I cannot convince myself that I like Tuesdays. Tuesdays are so landlocked. There’s no positive-outlook of a new week, and the weekend is so far away from Tuesday that I can’t get excited about it.
Except for this Tuesday. I have a little trip planned for tomorrow and I could not be more excited 🙂 I’ll give you the details mañana.
Last night, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority had a probate on campus. I was so excited when my co-worked told me about it. So excited in fact, that I tweeted about it.
I was obsessed with these girls in college – as were many of my own sorority sisters 🙂 These girls are so classy and fabulous. My co-worker who is an AKA laughs at me all the time because she knows I’m AKA’s biggest fan 🙂
The place was so crowded, and I was in the back, but I did manage to get a half-decent picture of the girls when they were just walking out.
If you’re not Greek, I apologize for rambling on about this, but it was fun!
After the show, I stopped by and picked up a Naked All Natural juice.
Has anyone ever tried this brand before? I’m not big on drinking a snack, but I took a few sips to wet my whistle, and it was tasty!
This morning I had some cold oats with PB, jelly, 1/2 a banana and some nuts. Oh, this never disappoints 🙂
Okay, friends! I’m headed to what seems like the other side of the world in order to get to work 😉 I’ll catch up with you later!
Let’s chat – Do I have any Greek readers out there?? ADPi right here! Are you a fan of Tuesdays?
Here’s something about me that you might not know. I love useless, random trivia. So, what better way to wind down after a long Monday than with some random, 100% useless facts? 😀
Did you know…that Budweiser beer conditions the hair?
Did you know… that your foot is the same length as your forearm? (I personally tested this fact)
Did you know……that the day after Thanksgiving is the busiest day for plumbers in the US? (ha!)
Did you know…that all major league baseball umpires must wear black underwear (in case they split their pants)?
Did you know…that the term “oxymoron” is in fact one itself? “Oxy” means sharp and “moron” means dull
Did you know…that Canada eats the most mac ‘n cheese per capita out of every other country in the world?
Did you know…that I now want to move to Canada?
Did you know…the can opener was invented 48 years after the can? (Um, what?)
Did you know…that ‘lollipop’ is the longest word you can spell on the keyboard only using your right hand?
There you have it, friends. I hope at least one of these made you smile 🙂 If you have a favorite random fact, do share!
Hi, friends! Long time no see! Sorry I was MIA yesterday. I was up early to catch my flight to Ohio and didn’t stop until I went to bed 🙂
This morning we were up and out by 4:30 AM, landed at 7:30, got home and tried to go back to bed and then went out for Mother’s Day brunch – so now is the first time I’ve checked my email, blog, etc. since Friday! (I think I was going through withdrawals 😉 ) Needless to say, I’m a little exhausted!
My cousin’s bridal shower was lovely! Her MOH did a fantastic job putting everything together.
There was tons of great food – and believe it or not, I only got two pictures of the whole day! I tried to take pictures of Lauren opening presents, but they all came out dark and/or blurry. What a bummer.
This cream-sickle cheese cake was deeelicious!
We played a few cute games like, How Well Do You Know the Bride?, Bridal MadLib, and a bridal word scramble. Then it was time to open presents! It was so funny to learn that Lauren and I both hate opening presents in front of people. It makes us so nervous! I was glad to see her do it a month before me. If she survived, I know I will too 🙂
Like I said earlier, this morning my dad took us out to breakfast. As you may remember from Friday – I love going out to breakfast 😀
I ordered a delicious veggies omelete with rye toast. My favorite!
Now I’m back over on my side of town about to go run some errands with Cory. I can’t believe that it was one year ago today that I graduated and got engaged to my best friend. Talk about the best day ever!
This picture makes me smile every time 🙂
We’ll friends, I’m out for now! If you’re a mother, happy Mother’s Day! I hope each of you are surrounded with ones you love today (and always)
Let’s chat – Did you get your mom anything for Mother’s Day? My brother and I got my mom a new camera! Does opening presents in front of people make you nervous? Uh. Heck yes!
