Cereal Crisis

Hello, hello! Happy Friday, friends πŸ™‚ It’s a pretty gloomy day here, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s the weekend – so I’ll take it!

Workout

I’m surprised that I even remembered what to do when I got to the gym this morning. It feels like it’s been 10 years since I’ve been. I did this strength circuit and spent a very sweaty 25 minutes running on the treadmill. I’ve read that if you do intervals, you don’t have to stay on that wretched machineΒ the treadmill as long compared to a one-speed run.

If that’s not true, please don’t correct me.

Breakfast

Two very scary things happened this morning in regards to my favorite meal. #1 – I had no milk or cereal in my possession. #2 – Giant was out of Quaker Oatmeal Squares. I went ape shit and knocked cereal boxes off the wall in hopes that one solitary Quaker Oats box was hiding amongst the granola and Kashi – but no such luck.

I had to resort to Puffins.

Don’t get me wrong. Puffins were my jam during my freshman year of college. But I think I ate them one-too-many times, if you knowwaddaImean. Now I just smell my old dorm when I eat them.

Stranger things have happened, friends.

Foods Alive

The only thing that helped mend my broken heart was the fact that Foods Alive sent me some fantastic products to try out – chia seeds being one of them. They made an appearance in my poor-man’s cereal combo and really stole the show.

They sent me some of their flax crackers and raw peanuts as well!

I opened the Maple Cinnamon crackers as soon as I got my paws on them, and they were delicious. The peanuts were unlike any peanuts I’ve ever tasted – maybe because I’ve never had raw peanuts? I’d be lying if I said I like my peanuts sans salt, but these were good and healthy-tasting. I think I’ll be making them into peanut butter soon! πŸ™‚

Lunchtime Love (GIVE AWAY)

Good afternoon, gorgeous readers! After staring at an excel spreadsheet for three hours, I think it’s time to take a little break. What do I like to do on my breaks, you ask? Give things away to readers, of course! πŸ˜€

A few weeks ago one of my favorite companies in the whole world, Larabar, sent me some goodies in the mail!

I can’t lie, I was really excited to get a package from a company that’s such a big deal in my book.

I got a t-shirt, which unfortunately is so small! I put it on and sang fat guy in a little coat (Tommy Boy, anyone?), some stickers and two cute little Larabar snack packs πŸ˜€

We’ve got chocolate chip cookie dough, PB&J, tropical fruit tart, peanut butter chocolate chip and blueberry muffin. Friends, this is a whole work-week’s worth of Larabars. Let’s be honest, these puppies aren’t cheap – so this isn’t a bad deal πŸ˜‰

My all time favorite flavor is chocolate chip cookie dough. I put one of those babies in the fridge and eat it for a nice cold dessert. Blueberry didn’t knock it out of the park for me, but the tropical fruit tart was a pleasantly tasty surprise. Seriously though, I don’t think you could go wrong with any flavor.

A Chocolate That’s Good for Me?

Happy Friday, my lovely friends!! Wow – all I can say is thank you for the great discussion about wanting to see the more “real” side of bloggers. Just to clarify – I was in no way Β trying toΒ suggest that we bloggers are deceitful by putting our best face forward – I mean, why wouldn’t we? The only point I was trying to make is that there is no need to attempt to fit in a blogger cookie cutter. It’s okay to be exactly who you are πŸ™‚

On the note of being exactly who you are – I’ve mentioned before that I have a little stomach issue called Crohn’s. Now that I’m on medication, it’s hardly an issue, but it does cause me to consider everything that I put into my body. I think, “Will this make me sick?” Mexican, yes. Veggies, no. πŸ˜‰

So when Attune Foods offered to send me some of their probiotic bars – make that, chocolate probiotic bars, I jumped at the chance.

For those of you who aren’t super familiar, probiotics are “good” bacteria that help with digestion and nutrient absorption by fighting bad things in your digestive system. Three cheers for probiotics! πŸ˜‰

Annelies, the lovely woman from Attune, sent me a two week sample and suggested I finish both boxes to get the full effect. First off, let me say that I loved these things! I ate one every day at 10 AM and I felt so indulgent for eating a “chocolate bar” mid-morning. But at 100 calories a pop, they’re far from indulgent. The almond flavor was by far the winner on taste – mainly because I’m obsessed with the almond/chocolate combo, but the milk chocolate crisp was tasty, too!

After two weeks of eating these chocolatey probiotics, I feel great. The most important thing for me is that my stomach feels good after I eat. No bloating = a happy Colleen πŸ™‚ I highly suggest trying these bars!

Well, friends – I didn’t workout this morning. I did a little X-Stretch with Tony and the Gang and it felt mahhvelous. I might get a little run in there later today – but I’m not making any promises to myself. Why? I might just be too excited from Apartment Hunting: Round Two.Β Cory and I are looking at two places today and I’m feeling optimistic πŸ™‚

A Whole New Bowl

Good morning, good morning! How’s everyone’s Monday going?! I was pretty darn pleased when I saw that it’s supposed to reach 80 degrees today. Hello, wearing a skirt to work! πŸ™‚

I slept so well last night. Like, so well that when my alarm went off at 5:30, I felt like I had slept in. I was ready to go. I jogged over to the gym and completed 20 minutes of speediness on the stair master and 12 minutes on the elliptical. 12 minutes? I had to leave the gym by a certain time, so that’s just how the cookie crumbled πŸ˜‰

As I was making my oats this morning, I may have been signing “a whole new bowllll” to the tune of the timeless hit, A Whole New World from Aladdin.

My oats were all kinds of new this morning. Well, the same – only a little different πŸ˜‰ I finally picked up some chia seeds that I keep reading about all over the place. But to be honest, I was quite disappointed. I don’t get the hype. I could hardly noticed them once they were mixed in. Maybe I did something wrong? I’m not sure!

The other new addition to my oats? Artisana almond butter! πŸ˜€

Let me tell you, this almond butter totally made up for the chia’s slack.

The lovely people from Artisana sent me tons of their yummy nut butters to try out. All of their nut butters are raw and organic. I’m not a 100% “clean” eater and I certainly cannot afford to buy all organic food, but I truly appreciate it when I can!

I love these packets. You can bet your sweet buns that these will now be a staple in my lunchbox. They’ll be so easy to use with apples, veggies, or if I make oats in the office. I also love that I don’t have to measure out a serving size. That’s key for me, because PB calories can add up quickly!

I may or may not have eaten the pecan butter straight out of the jar. The consistency is the perfect combination of nutty and smooth. Mmm good!

I have a day full of work and pre-cana meeting. Cory and I are having an “interview” of sorts with a priest tonight to ensure that we’re compatible (the Focus test, for any Catholics out there). Jesus, after almost five years – I hope we pass! πŸ˜‰

One more thing – I want to give a HUGE shout out to my dear friend and sorority sister, Ashley, for running her first 5K this weekend! I’m so, so proud of her! She’s amazing. She also writes a blog that’s so funny you will cry from laughing so hard. Every time.
