Whirlwind of a Weekend!

Hi, friends! Long time no see πŸ™‚ I didn’t post yesterday because my day was jam-packed busy. So, let’s go through the highlights, shall we?

Best Eats

Cory and I went to Jason’s Deli for dinner on Friday and it was stellar. I think I may have found my new favorite sandwich

This, my friends, is the Grilled Portobello Wrapini- grilled portobello mushroom, organic spinach, asiago, guacamole, pico de gallo. Pressed within an olive oil-basted organic wheat wrap.

Seriously. If you have a Jason’s Deli in your area, run – don’t walk – to go order one of these bad boys. It’s sandwich heaven.

We also stopped by Sweet Frog for a little treat.

This was my second visit in two days – concern? I like self-serve fro-yo because I can get just enough to hit the spot. Usually when I order pre-made desserts, they’re of behemoth stature and they can be a total waistline danger.

Home Away From Home

The bulk of our weekend has been spent in furniture stores. I had dreams of laying by the pool and soaking up the skin cancer sun, but alas – Real Life stepped in the way.

Here’s the thing. Brand new furniture is expensive. At 23 and 25 years old, Cory and I do pretty well for ourselves, but we’re in no means rollin’ in the dough.

After a certain point, I just want to find something and buy it. I’m also easily persuaded by salespeople. Β I’m so grateful that Cory has enough sense to actually shop around before dropping several thousand dollars πŸ˜‰

New ObsessionΒ

Oh my GOD! I have spent an embarrassing amount of time in the past two days watching season 1. I read the Other Bolyen Girl a few years ago and have been obsessed with the Tudors ever sense. I don’t know why I never watched this show. Maybe because it should be X-rated?

So before we head out for the day, I got up and spent about 40 minutes in the gym lifting weights and completing a quick mile and half run.

I refueled with a huge green monster and the comics πŸ™‚

Am I the only one who still enjoys reading the comics?Β

Into the green monster went:

  • A handful of ice cubes
  • 1 banana
  • A huge handful of spinach
  • Handful of blueberries
  • 1 tbsp PB

Okay folks! That’s where we are up to this point! I keep forgetting that the weekend isn’t actually over today. Β It’s like Saturday Round 2 πŸ˜€

I hope you are all enjoying your holiday weekend!!

Let’s chat –Β

Have you seen The Tudors?Β

Ever been to Jason’s Deli?Β

If you’ve ever shopped for furniture – is it something you love or loath?Β

Surprise Gym

While I don’t normally bare-ass it on Fridays, I do enjoy the more casual and laid back feel of the work day πŸ˜‰

The gym that I normally go to on campus is closed for the summer, but little did I know that there is another equally large gym right around the corner.

Well, wouldya look at that…

This blows the mind of a girl who went to a tiny school with only one gym and only one dining hall. This morning I did intervals on the ArcTrainer for 30 minutes. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again – with the right resistance, that baby can give me a good workout!

Today is the “sell by” date on my milk. That always makes me a little wary. I did the smell test. Not too abnormal. I did the shake test. No chunks (thank you, freshman year, for proving that happens). With all systems go – I made a hearty cereal combo πŸ˜€

Quaker oatmeal squares, Honey Nut Cheerios, Corn Flakes, chia seed, banana

Today is part two of the interview processΒ so I better go get ready! I hope you have a fabulous Friday! Here’s to a long weekend full of fun, family and relaxation! πŸ™‚

Let’s chat – Do you have any plans for the long weekend?! Do you drink milk on/after the sell by date? I drank it today, but I probably won’t drink it tomorrow. It’s not usually a problem I have – I go through milk so quickly!Β

Hey there, blog lovers! Hows your Tuesday going?! It’s a little doom and gloom outside this morning, but I’m trying my hardest to send the sun some good vibes so he comes out to play πŸ™‚

This morning’s workout started off with a a great strength circuitΒ and then 2.5 miles on the treadmill. I was really glad that I was able to fit weights and cardio into one workout. I haven’t had time in the morning to that for a while now!

It’s also been several days since I’ve had a bowl of cold oats, so that’s what I let my mind wander to while I was hurtin’ fo’ certain on the treadmill.

Sweet victory.

These are not overnight oats. They’re more like stuck-in-the-fridge-while-I-showered oats. Nonetheless, they tasted great!

Sweatin’ It

I’m a little preoccupied this morning because I have an interview in a few hours. I sweat peeling an orange, so you can imagine what a hot mess I am before an interview.

Like my nerves for anything, it’s the anticipation that kills me. Once I get in the room, I’m able to strut my stuff.

Okay, my friends! I need to spend some time going over the job description and potential questions before I hit the road. I need to convince this lady of how awesome I am πŸ˜‰

I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday morning! I’ll catch ya later – hopefully with a good update!

Let’s chat – Are you calm under pressure, or are you a nervous nelly? A cardio workout vs strength workout? Strength workouts are my favorite!Β

Extra Chipper

GooOoOd morning, beautiful people! I’m feeling extra chipper this morning πŸ˜€

Maybe it’s because when I walked outside, I saw blue skies for the first time in seven days.

Or maybe it’s because I had a really intense run that left me feeling like I kicked my own ass.

Or maybe it’s because I had my free sample of Quaker Oatmeal Squares fo’ breakfast.

I love being a Clever Girl.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to get two little boxes of their favorite cereal in the mail?

Like I said, I had a really great run on the treadmill this morning.

Woah. Did my fingers really just type that sentence?

I did the 5-4-3-2-1 sequence twice through and it was tough, but I was proud that I pushed myself.Β Every time I get to that minute at 8.0, I pray to God that I a) don’t vomit and b) don’t fall. So far so good πŸ˜‰

Weekend Plans

Cory and I are headed to Richmond this afternoon. We have a meeting at 7 AM tomorrow (say whaaa??) to go over liturgy and music for the wedding mass. Oddly enough, I’m looking forward to it.

I’m also going to Richmond for a good friend’s bachelorette party! I’m pretty excited. I’ve never been to one, but I’m highly confident that a good time will ensue πŸ˜‰

I’m off to get some errands done! I’ll catch you guys later this afternoon!

Let’s chat – Has the weather been extra crappy where you live? It’s been raining every day for like a week!Β Have you ever been to a bachelorette party?Β

Lunchtime Love (GIVE AWAY)

Good afternoon, gorgeous readers! After staring at an excel spreadsheet for three hours, I think it’s time to take a little break. What do I like to do on my breaks, you ask? Give things away to readers, of course! πŸ˜€

A few weeks ago one of my favorite companies in the whole world, Larabar, sent me some goodies in the mail!

I can’t lie, I was really excited to get a package from a company that’s such a big deal in my book.

I got a t-shirt, which unfortunately is so small! I put it on and sang fat guy in a little coat (Tommy Boy, anyone?), some stickers and two cute little Larabar snack packs πŸ˜€

We’ve got chocolate chip cookie dough, PB&J, tropical fruit tart, peanut butter chocolate chip and blueberry muffin. Friends, this is a whole work-week’s worth of Larabars. Let’s be honest, these puppies aren’t cheap – so this isn’t a bad deal πŸ˜‰

My all time favorite flavor is chocolate chip cookie dough. I put one of those babies in the fridge and eat it for a nice cold dessert. Blueberry didn’t knock it out of the park for me, but the tropical fruit tart was a pleasantly tasty surprise. Seriously though, I don’t think you could go wrong with any flavor.

So, who wants ’em?Β

Let’s make it easy. Just leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite Larabar flavor is, or which one you’d love to try.Β

I’ll randomly pick a winner on Friday morning! πŸ™‚ Good luck!

“Earning” the Weekend

Good morning, my friends! The weekend is so close – we can get through this long (and rainy) day, right?! πŸ˜‰

It was just me and these babies today. These dumbbells are one of the best gifts I’ve ever received, because sometimes they’re all I need for a good workout – and I don’t have to leave my room!

Before I went to bed last night, I jotted down some strength-training moves that I wanted to knock out before heading to work – and man, they had me sweating!

  • W-press x15
  • Bicep curl to over head press x 15
  • Chair dips x 15
  • Regular Squats x 30
  • Pliet squats (with swinging a dumbbell, kind of the a kettle bell? I know no technical terms, clearly) x 30
  • Chest press x 15
  • Upright rows x 15
  • In and out bicep curls x15
  • Calf raise with tricep extension x 15
  • Plank – 40 seconds
  • 10 push-ups

I did all of these twice, and it took me about 20 minutes. It was quick, but I felt the burn!

My cereal bowl was so good yesterday that I had it again today!

I’ve mentioned before that Thursdays are my “marathon days” as I work from 8:30 – 4:00, then have class from 4:30 – 10:00. I think of it as “earning” my do-absolutlely-nothing kind of Fridays πŸ™‚ But on these days, I have to pack my food for the entire day.

Rice & veggies and a Granny Smith for lunch and a turkey sandwich and chips for dinner (I often re-use almond tins instead of using plastic baggies) I packed 2 Raw Crunch Bars as snacks πŸ™‚

One more thing before I sign off. Some of you may recall that Jamie and I went to see the Justin Bieber movie a while back. Well, she posted this link on my wall this morning saying that we should have taken this little boy with us. Is he not so cute?! (You have to click through to YouTube to watch it. I don’t know why it won’t play straight to my blog. Anyway, Enjoy!)

Have a fantastic Thursday, you pretty people! πŸ˜€

I’d Hug Ya if I Could!

Hi, blog friends! A big thanks to all of you for your kind words about it being okay to vent from time to time. I’d hug each of ya if I could!

Try and tell me that’s not so cute πŸ˜‰

I know this blog my place to do whatever I want (that sounds bossy), but I don’t want to bore you fabulous readers with my mundane annoyances πŸ˜‰

After work I spent some quality time at the gym. My fitness ADD was in full swing today. Proof:

  • 15 minutes on the stair master
  • 10 minutes hill/speed walking (incline 5.5, speed 3.6)
  • 15 minutes on the stair master again
  • 20 minutes on the elliptical

I tried to make my switches during the commercial breaks. Gotta love Law & Order marathons πŸ˜‰

In the food arena, I’m try to make this week interesting: I’m not buying groceries this week.

No, this is not a crash diet πŸ˜‰

I normally spend a good chunk of change on my weekly Sunday grocery trips. I don’t know about you, but money doesn’t grow on trees in my neighborhood – and after a fun week of spring break, I could afford to save a couple a dollar bills πŸ˜‰

So my new “challenge” is toΒ eat most of my meals at the dining hall (because aΒ free meal plan is included with my assistantship) with the exception of dinner on class nights. The food at this dining hall is noteworthy as there are a wide variety of options – even an entireΒ gluten-free station. But I’ve shied away from the dining hall this year because:

  1. I like to know exactly what I’m putting into my mouth
  2. Not being able to eat cereal whenever I want makes me slightly anxious
  3. Being unable to find a seat during the “meal rush” is mildly obnoxious.
  4. Let’s be serious – who doesn’t need to run to the bathroom after eating 90% of the food served in a college dining hall?

The real challenge is going to be not gaining 5 pounds. Self-control and planning have to be my top priorities. I mean, fries and soft serve available at every meal? That should be illegal πŸ˜‰

I’ll do my best to frequent the salad bar

And try not to “sample” something from every station πŸ˜‰

We’ll see how it goes!

Let’s chat – What are/were your dining hall tips in college? Do you ever feel like you can’t make up your mind when you’re working out? Random – would you be interested in me posting a video post sometime soon? I normally love it when bloggers post videos and answer silly questions, just because I like to hear what their voices sound like!

Yes, this is my proof that went to the gym for myΒ afternoon workout πŸ™‚ This is big, friends. I even packed my favorite workout t-shirt to pump me up. My PE shirt from freshman year of high school. K – 9Β I would do almost anything to get out of PE, but now I love working out. This shirt symbolizes something for me. I know, I’m a strange bird πŸ™‚

I was so shocked at how awesome I felt working out in the afternoon! Jess was right – it was…easier?! I ran for 25 minutes on the treadmill and I wasn’t even tired! I only stopped because my ankles and calves were killing me. What gives?! So I hopped over to the ass-kicking stair machine and stayed on that for 25 more minutes. FIFTY minutes of cardio, my friends! That’s a success in my book πŸ™‚

Here’s the only kicker – I have to take a second shower. I’m not a girl who works out and glistens. I straight up man sweat. It’s a concern.

Tell me – If you workout in the afternoon, do you shower twice?

Biceps and Legs and Core – Oh My!

Good morning, friends! πŸ˜€ I love ThursdaysΒ because they’re like my Fridays. Trust me, it’s a long day – so I totally earn it πŸ˜‰

This morning I slightly impressed myself and got a little creative with Tony and the P90X gang. The DVDs each focus on one region – such as arms, legs, cardio, etc. – but I was in the market for a full body workout at 5:15 this morning πŸ˜‰

I ended up doing 15 minutes of Shoulders & Arms, 15 minutes of Legs & Back (but only did leg exercises) & 10-12 minutes of Ab Ripper X – there are just some moves on there that I skip because I simple can’t do them πŸ˜‰Β That said, I’m feelin’ pretty good! Did you get a good workout in this morning?

I read an interesting article on Self.com about how often a person needs to workout per week. I was shocked to read that the most current research shows that we need to being doing aroundΒ 150 minutes per week – that’s only 2 and a half hours per week. When you think about it in those terms, it seems totally doable. Although, the article does state that the amount needs to be upped if you’re trying to lose weight. Anyway! I just thought you’d be interested πŸ™‚

So, I’m not sure how this happened, but I had an epic fail with my overnight oats (?!) Last night I put in the usual mix, but they were way watery this morning. Yuck. So I just went ahead and made regular hot oats instead.

Courtney put some Quaker Oatmeal Squares in her oats yesterday and I thought it was a brilliant idea!

Besides being pumped about my mash-up of a workout this morning, I’m also pumped because I got a free t-shirt at work yesterday and I get to wear it to today πŸ™‚ I 1. love free t-shirts and 2. love long-sleeved t-shirts. It was a red-letter day, friends!

I love being able to wear t-shirts and jeans to work! πŸ™‚

It’s lookin’ to be around that time…I’m off to work! Let’s touch base this afternoon πŸ˜‰ Have a terrific Thursday!
