Directionally Challenged.

Hey there! Thanks so much for all of your good luck vibes you sent me this morning πŸ™‚ Overall, I think they worked!

When I Googled the place of my interview this morning, I thought no sweat.

I know you may be thinking But, Colleen, you get lost in your own home.

Yes, yes. While that is a slightly fabricated statement, it rarely occurs that I venture to a new place alone and feel confident in my directional abilities.

But Google maps told me my destination was only 3 minutes and two turns away. How could anyone mess that up?

Oh, that’s right. I could.

Good thing I left myself 45 minutes to find my way to a building that was 2.1 miles away from my home.

On my first attempt, I missed the turn. I said to my GPS, No Gertrude. You can’t possibly be right about this one.

Who am I to tell Gerty that she’s wrong?!

After she said route recalculationΒ for the 5th time in her annoyed British accent, (yes, I know she was annoyed) I decided to pay attention. I ended up doing a huge loop only to come back to the left turn that Gertrude had suggested in the first place.

And I took it. And she was right. Go figure.Β

At this point I still had 20-ish minutes to find the actual building. And yes, I did stop a man in a suit to ask if he could “point me in the right direction” after I had turned off Gertrude in a fit of rage.

To make a short story long, I ended up on time.

Just a little sweaty.

The interview went swimmingly and I’ve been asked back for a second interview πŸ™‚ So here’s the deal: I don’t really want to celebrate this call back yet. And I contemplated not saying anything because if I don’t get the job, I’ll feel stupid.

But, such is life. Everyone has interviews. Some go well and some don’t. I’m thrilled I was asked back, but I’m also finding a sense of calmness in the cliche: If it’s meant to be, it will be.Β

Now I’m going to enjoy my fine dinner and get on my way to volunteer!

PS – Sorry for the lack of photos. I’m in a Panera and my computer is running so slowly!Β

Let’s chat – Are you good with directions? Do you ever eat out at a restaurant alone? I’m eating out alone tonight, and I kind of enjoyed it! Not something I do on the reg., but it wasn’t too shabby πŸ™‚

Breakfast Date

Hi there, friends!! Happy Friday! πŸ˜€ Today I can officially say that I have one year of graduate school under my belt! What a relief!

Because I had class last night, I was unable to partake in Cinco de Mayo festivities, which was a slight bummer. I considered taking a margarita in a water bottle to class, but that’s so undergrad πŸ˜‰

Workout

This morning I slept in a little bit (wahoo!!) before hitting the gym. My cardio ADD was in full force today. I ran for 20 minutes on the treadmill, elliptical-ed for 20 minutes and finished (my TV show) with 5 minutes on the stair master. Kind of spastic, but I was sweaty by the end!

Breakfast

I met Jamie for breakfast this morning at Panera. Going out for breakfast is one of my favorite things to do, but I don’t get to do it very often – so this was a treat!

You betta believe I got myself some hazelnut coffee.

Actually, Jamie and I both got the exact same thing. Same coffee with the same breakfast sandwich –Β egg and cheese on ciabatta bread.Β We’re perfect heterosexual life partners πŸ˜‰

This didn’t disappoint! My only complaint is that I wish it was bigger. I was hungry!

Now I’m home and about to run some errands with my mom. We’re going away again this weekend, but this time it’s to Ohio! My cousin Lauren is having a bridal shower and I’m looking forward to it! (PS – Lauren, the wedding is only 29 days away!! πŸ™‚ )

I hope you all have a wonderful Friday! I’ll catch ya later! πŸ™‚

Let’s chat – What’s your favorite meal to eat out? Breakfast, duh. Any exciting plans this weekend?Β

Brotha Man

Hello, hello!! Oh, it feels so good to wake up knowing it’s Friday, doesn’t it? πŸ˜€ It also feels good to know that so many of my blog friends are fellow bag ladies! My back and arms are sore this morning, and it’s concerning because I don’t know if it’s from my workout, or from carrying 5 bags around all day.

After work yesterday, I stopped by the Health & Fitness Expo on campus, which was really cool. What was less cool – the student at the check-in table gave me a free water bottle – and a free bag. Are you joking?! Does it look like I need a new bag? Who am I kidding? It was free. I took it.

While free things make me happy, there’s something much happier in my world today.

MY BROTHER IS HOME!! πŸ˜€ Brian and I are very close in age and he’s truly one of my best friends (but don’t let him know that πŸ˜‰ ) He’s a busy senior at ODU and I haven’t seen him in two months! I called him last night after class, and to my surprise, he was already at my parent’s!

I’ll be headed over there soon, and we decided Panera would be on the schedule for lunch. He has a slight obsession with their broccoli cheddar bread bowls..

Brian is so funny, and he’s a good sport who reads my blog so I’m going to see if I can talk him into doing a vlog with me. But what to talk about?!

Enjoy your Friday, my friends! If you’re working or schooling, I hope the day flies by and you’re relaxing in no time πŸ˜‰

Busy Day!

Hello, friends! Happy Hump Day πŸ™‚

I had a date with the treadmill bright and early this morning. I completed 20 minutes of speed intervals. I sprinted at 7.2 for 1:30 and recovered for 40 seconds at 6.0 – and repeated that several times πŸ˜‰ After that I hopped on the elliptical for 12 (random, I know) minutes.

I got back to my apartment, showered, packed my lunchbox (lunch & dinner) and my backpack and ate some cereal for breakfast. I’m still stuck on my combo of Honey Nut Cheerios and Quaker Oats Oatmeal Squares topped with almond slivers and half a banana. Maybe next shopping trip I’ll change up the cereals. Maybe πŸ˜‰

Last night’s dinner at Panera was delish, per the usual. My prediction last night came true! πŸ˜‰ I ordered a you-pick-two of chicken noodle soup and a Thai chopped salad. This was the first time I’d ever had this salad, and while it was pretty good, I don’t think I’ll be ordering it again. The peanut sauce dressing was slightly overpowering.

A close up of the salad: fresh cilantro, chopped romaine, citrus & pepper chicken (YUM), fire roasted edamame blend, wonton strips (I removed), Β low fat Thai chili vinegarette, cashew pieces, peanut sauce.

The show stealer? The baguette, duh πŸ˜‰

My day is pretty swamped – I’m teaching my RA class this morning, I have meetings this afternoon, a doctor’s appointment, a group meeting for a project and class from 5:30 – 9:30. Is it the weekend yet?!

I better get movin’! πŸ™‚

Let’s chat – What did you have for breakfast? Did you have a morning workout?

Dutch Date Night

Good afternoon, my friends! Thank you SO much for helping me decide what I should do for my Substance Abuse project. My Grandma left a comment suggesting that I get rid of my potty mouth, but I couldn’t come up with a an idea for “treatment.” Oh well. F it πŸ˜‰ (Just kidding, Mare!)

After thinking long and hard – and reading your very helpful comments – I have decided to forgo all technology after 8PM. This means no computer, no TV. I’m focused, guys. I’m dedicated to the cause. Maybe I’ll even go Lindsay Lohan-chic and invest in an ankle monitor πŸ˜‰

Too much?

I’ve decided that I can use my phone for conversational purposes (no texting), as that is a positive trade-off. The only exceptions for the technology are 1. Tuesdays = Glee at 8PM, sorry. 2. If I need to use the computer after 8PM, I can only use Word to write my papers. Sound fair? I think so.

My “treatment” will be reading or journaling or anything else that happens to come up! I’m excited to see how it goes. I’m a little nervous as well, because I’m usually working on my blog until 10PM. Yikes! This will be difficult.

Okay – that’s enough about school work! Thanks for putting up with it. I feel like once I put it in writing, I’m more likely to stick to it πŸ™‚

Lunch today was a veggie bowl with brown rice, a crisp Fuji apple and a Babybel cheese wheel. I could eat 10 of those Babybel wheels. They are so tasty!

Tonight Cory and I are going on what we call a Dutch Date. A Dutch Date means we go out, but we pay for ourselves. Some people think this isn’t proper. Some people totally agree. My opinion is that after you’ve been dating someone for 4.5 years, you can’t expect them to pay for you every time you go out. It’s easier to swing $10 for yourself rather than $20 for the two of you – do you see what I mean?

Anyway, I’m telling you this now because I fear I won’t have time to get back and post after dinner (and because of Glee) and make my 8PM rule. I mean, I can’t relapse on the first day! πŸ˜‰

If I was a gambling woman, I’d say you’ll probably be seeing pictures tomorrow morning of a you-pick-two made up of chicken noodle soup and half of a Thai chopped chicken salad πŸ˜‰

Let’s chat – Do you think the boy should always pay for dates – regardless of how long you’ve been together? What do you normally order from Panera?

FB Status Etiquette?

Friends! The stuffed mushroom was ahhhmazing!! Even as a leftover! I paired it with some (frozen) veggies and it was a meal fit for a queen πŸ™‚ It left me feeling satisfied, not I-need-to-unbutton-my-pants full.

While that lunch left me feeling great, something else did not…

Sonofabitch. Man. I just hate that. It’s forty bucks, too. What really chaps my buns is that I had just gone out to check my car not 15 minutes before. My boss sent me out to run some errands, and that’s when I found this on LaFonda (my Honda). Grrr. Okay, that was me venting. This is me moving on.

Jamie and I met up for dinner this evening! Can I just mention again that I am so happy that my BFF is doing her student teaching up here?! πŸ˜€ We have so much fun. And she’s going to be so embarrassed that I put these up.

A night out on the town…

Bar night in Farmville! (We miss those days!)

Halloween circa 2008

We chatted over soup at this fine dining establishment – maybe you’ve heard of it? Panera? πŸ˜‰ I don’t have one unkind word to say about that place. I just love it.

While enjoying our soups and baguettes, we started an in depth discussion about something I think almost everyone has an opinion on: Facebook Status Etiquette. Let me preface this with the statement that I’m a self-professed Facebook stalker. I’m not ratting on anyone who’s on there 24/7. I’m on FB several times a day. Therefore, there are things that irk me, and I don’t think I’m the only one.

  • Case One – The TMI Status: Telling the Facebook world that you were up all night vomiting and having diarrhea is not something anyone (not even your own mother) wants to read on their newsfeed.
  • Case Two – The Blow-By-Blow Status: When typing out a paragraph-long status about waking up, showering, stubbing a toe, running to Point A, Point B and Point C, cleaning the bathroom and giving the dog a bath – does one ever think: Who really wants to know this? (Other than the person who’s stalking you and trying to find the best time to rob your house).
  • Case Three – The Updated Every Five Minutes Status: Please just stop. Your clogging up my newsfeed, therefore taking away from my experience of stalking more interesting people.
  • Case Four – The Compliant about the Significant Other Status: It’s awkward when you put your dirty laundry out there for everyone to see. If you’re mad at Joe (or Jane) why don’t you call him/her up and talk privately rather than writing a mean Facebook status and waiting for him/her to react?

So tell me, do you have any Facebook pet peeves? I know ya do! πŸ™‚

That said, I’ve got to go get ready for school!! Have a relaxing night!! πŸ™‚
