Good morning and happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday off from work or school 🙂
While it’s still a long weekend, I treated this Monday like any other and got in some cardio. It was such a treat though because I ditched the treadmill and pick up a pretty cute running partner 😉
I know many bloggers take pictures of themselves during and/or post runs – but you won’t see any of that here. I’m far too vain to show myself looking as trife as I do after a long sweaty run outside. I’m just not a pretty sweat-er. Plain and simple.
After our run, Cory and I immediately scarfed down some cereal.
My heart skipped a beat when I realized I had no bananas in my possession. What is cereal without sliced banana?! Thank goodness I remembered the blueberries that I had on hand.
Oh Lawd, these blueberries are fantastic! The pints of blueberries were buy one get one free when I was at Giant yesterday, and that was a deal I couldn’t pass up. I’ve single-handedly demolished a pint in about 24 hours.
Now Cory and I are off to the grocery store to pick up some eats for our Memorial Day cookout for two. I see a big, juicy burger and some time by the pool in my future – and I don’t hate it 😉
While it’s true that I’m lovin’ this day because it gets me a long weekend, but I would be remiss not to thank all the brave men and women who serve, or have served, in the armed forces. Thank for your service.

This afternoon I had to say farewell (for now) to my BFF, Jamie 😦 Her brother is getting married this weekend and then she’s headed back to live in Richmond for the summer.
Of course we had to have frozen yogurt as our goodbye snack 😉 My favorite fro-yo place in Richmond just opened a shop in my neck of the woods! It’s a good day, my friends.
Surprising Afternoon Workout
Some of you may know that I’m usually an AM workout gal, but it wasn’t in the cards this morning. So after my fro-yo extravaganza, I made a pit-stop at the gym and was able to get in a 4-mile run.
Can you believe that? I sure can’t. I was just trotting along, and when I got to about 2.5 miles I realized I wasn’t really tired. I even ran one mile at 7.0 mph, which is a little bit faster than my comfortable 6.3 mph. I was proud of myself!
Couches, Tables and Beds, Oh My!
Cory and I spent the evening furniture shopping. Woah. Doin’ big things, I know. But as lame as furniture shopping may sound, it was actually exciting! I’ve never owned my own furniture and I’ve never owned anything with Cory – so this is all very fun 😀
All that sitting on couches and Ooohh-ing and Ahhh-ing over memory foam beds worked up our appetites. Once we got in the car my hanger level was at a solid 7, so I told Cory “just make a decision. I don’t care what or where we eat.”
He made a good decision! El Fresco it was! 🙂 I ordered two soft grilled chicken tacos with black beans and rice. Delish.
I know it is Mexican food, and I understand that many would dispute the healthiness of it all, but the ingredients are always so fresh here!
Look at that fresh salsa, fresh guac and grilled chicken. I’m also a huge fan of black beans – so all in all, I left stuffed, but I didn’t feel totally bad about it 🙂
Now my night includes doing a whole lotta nothin’! I hope you’ve enjoyed your day, friends!

Good day, friends! How’s everyone doing? When my alarm went off this morning it was definitely a game-time decision as to whether or not I wanted to get myself on the treadmill. After tossing and turning and realizing how badly I’d feel if I skipped the gym again, I got up and threw on some sneaks 🙂
My run was all over the place. You know that emergency stop button on the treadmill? Yes, well I often smack it mid-run with my arms that are flailing all over the place. That’s what happened today. Today it happened when I was in a full-on sprint. The abrupt stop almost threw me off (again).
Once I hit the emergency stop, I fell out of my groove – but I stuck in there for 35 minutes before calling it quits. I came home and rewarded myself with a green monster 🙂
I’ve been pining for a tumbler-esque cup with a plastic straw for a while now, so I was super pumped and ready to drink smoothies all day when Cory brought this bad boy home from work. It’s the little things, friends.
Speaking of how great Cory is, he and I had our second pre-cana meeting with our priest last night. We had to take a 150-question test – like, on a scantron.
I don’t know about you, but any kind of test makes my brain stop working. Seriously, I thought this was just the case with topics like Spanish or math – but I was wrong.
The priest started giving us the directions for the test. We simply had to read the statement and fill in one of three circles – agree, disagree or unsure.
So wait, I ask, Are we answering these about ourselves…or each other?
Sometimes I shock myself at how awkward I am.
It seemed like every third question was about sex. I was alone in the room, but I giggled anyway. Mature, I know.
I feel like Catholics shun the idea of sex by making it a huge sin if you’re unmarried – but once
two people a man and a woman get hitched they’re like “Come on, get to it!!” It’s quite confusing and severely awkward.
On the ride home, Cory and I feverishly quizzed each other on our answers to controversial questions. Our consensus is that we passed. Our wedding will happen 😉
Today is a busy day for me, so I better hit the road. I’ll catch you later! 🙂
Let’s chat – Are you a good test-taker?
I can understand being a marathon runner and complaining about running injuries. But hurting yourself while running in place? Are you joking?
This afternoon I completed a 3 mile run – but not without complications, my friends.
About 10 minutes into said run, I somehow tripped over my own feet and ended up hanging onto the handle bars for dear life. Think week-1 of The Biggest Loser. You know how someone always falls off the treadmill when Jillian cranks up the speed?
You now have a visual of my afternoon.
Although I didn’t fall completely off, it was pretty freakin’ close.
I jerked up faster than you could point and say “look at that moron!” Naturally, I was in the front row of treadmills, but I was too embarrassed to look behind me and assess how many people witnessed my clumsiness. Looking back, I think I laughed too loudly at myself. People knew I was humiliated. Damn it.
At least I got to meet Jamie for some fro-yo this afternoon. That made my sore ankle feel a little better 😉

Hi friends! How’s the transition from weekend to work week going for everyone? These past few days have been full of exciting things, so I’m still running around with my head in the clouds 🙂
If you happened to miss yesterday’s post, you didn’t hear my fantastic news! We are so excited. We may or may not have walked around Home Goods last night just “looking for inspiration.” Does anyone else love Home Goods as much as I do??
Cory and I tried spaghetti squash for the first time last night. This stuff is so freakin’ cool – have you tried it before? (Cory picked up this squash at Whole Foods.) All we had to do was cut it in half, place it on a baking sheet (cut side down) and place in the oven at 350 for 45 minutes
When you pull it out of the oven, flip it over, grab two forks and start shredding
I was so amazed by how a huge squash went from that, to this
My “spaghetti” sauce was from a jar, and I added meat, broccoli, onion, red peppers and mushrooms. And you know what? This dish was pretty close to tasting like actual spaghetti! I was skeptical at first, as I’m a huge carb fiend. I love pasta, but I don’t eat it often because I tend to overload. Needless to say, this is a great option if you inhale carbs on a meal-ly basis like I do.
Now if only I could create a fake-me-out baguette to go with this meal 😉
Monday’s Moves & Morning Meal
This morning at the gym was just what I needed. I completed a 4.5 mile run in 40 minutes with the help of the fantastic 5-4-3-2-1 pace. If you haven’t tried out this treadmill workout, I suggest you change that 😉
Another exciting thing for me was this morning’s breakfast. Believe it or not, I’ve never had a green monster before! I read about them on almost every blog that I follow, so I figured it was time I gave it a try. Again, I was a Doubting Thomas. Can you really not taste the spinach?
In this smoothie went
- 8 ice cubes
- 3/4 skim milk
- 1 banana
- 1 huge handful of spinach
- 1 frozen strawberry
- 1 scoop of Arbonne Essentials Vanilla protein shake mix (I think this made the smoothie. SO good!)
I’m spending today with my mom to run some important wedding errands! 😀 As excited as I am, I can’t forget that I have this waiting for me when I get back

Hello, my gorgeous friends! How’s everyone doin’ this afternoon? It’s rainy and cold here in Northern Virginia – but’s it’s been a pretty good day so far 🙂
Today’s mid-day meal was a pasta/spinach/sausage dish that my mom had leftover from lunch yesterday and it was delicious. She always sends me home with food! I also had a sliced up Granny (apple, not grandmother) on the side. I took pictures, but they are boring and looked unappetizing – so we’ll go without them today!
I had some errands to run in between work and class – and I knew picking up my mail meant that I’d be in very close proximity to the gym – so I planned on getting a quick sweat in before I had to be home to get ready for class.
I went into the gym with a BTN mindset. Better Than Nothing. Whatever I ended up doing was going to be better than doing nothing at all. Sometimes entering the gym with this frame of mind results in some of my best workouts because there’s no pressure. But, I’m a weak lover, my friends. I gave into Running. Only 24 hours after our breakup!! Our encounter was brief – I ran a 5k in a little under 30 minutes. Take that, Running 😉
I had some goodies waiting in the mail for me today! Cait had the fabulous idea of setting people up with pen pals, and I got my first letter today from Sara! I was so excited 🙂
I also got a little package in today from the lovely people at Raw Crunch! 😀
Okay, I’ve been fermenting in my gym clothes for far too long now. I need to change and head out for a night of learning 😉
I’m going to be blunt. I feel like this isn’t working. And I’ve gotta tell ya – it’s you not me. We’ve been at this game for years; and honestly, you make me tired (literally and figuratively). This all started out innocently enough – I saw that all the pretty girls liked you, so I wanted in on you as well.
But, as most tumultuous relationships go, I put too much trust in you. I thought you’d make me prettier. I thought you’d make me happier. I thought you’d make me better. But I was wrong.
You’re tough. You’ve brought me more tears than smiles. More hurting than flirting. More pain, less gain. I think you’re starting to see the point..
I can’t lie, though. We have had some good times. 5Ks, a 5-miler and a 10K were all some of our good days. I can’t pretend those didn’t happen. And those are the things you do that keep me hanging on, coming back for more.
But there’s a new sweet thang on the block, and I like it more than you. Weight Lifting treats me like a lady and makes me feel strong. You make my chest hurt. You make me look like a silly bitch. A fake. Weight Lifting hurts so good – and trust me, it’s so good. Weight Lifting also lets the Elliptical in our relationship without making me feel like a cheater. I am exhausted by the Elliptical guilt you made me feel.
So, Running, things need to shape up or ship out. Should we go on a break? I’m tired of feeling pinned down by you and I’m ready to play the field. My mother always told me “If you love something let it go, if it comes back it’s yours, that’s how you know it’s for keeps, yeah it’s for sure” (Or was that Christina Aguilera?) I want to love you, Running. I want to be like your other fit, toned, pretty mistresses – but I’m tired of pretending like our relationship is easy.
Please don’t try and force yourself on me. Don’t think I’m serious? I’m thisclose to taking you off my interests on Facebook. Sure, maybe we can have a light jog in the park every once in a while – but just as friends. Try and give me some space. I’m really trying to work it out with Weight Lifting and Other Forms of Cardio.

At the risk of boring you to tears, today I’ve been either working, working out or chatting with friends – so I don’t have too much to catch you up on, but I wanted to stop in and say hello! 😀
Today I feasted on (un-pictured) butternut squash soup, a salad and a sliced up Granny Smith (with a babybel for spreading!)
I used my Chobani + raspberry jelly concoction as my homemade dressing. It was on point.
After work, my sweat session went according to plan. I’m so glad so many of you schedule your workouts, too! I headed over to the gym for a 35 minute run on the treadmill followed by a 10 minute cool down on the elliptical (read: I just wanted to find out who the killer was on Law & Order. I was totally right, by the way) 😉
When I first got on the treadmill, I hated my life. My legs felt so terribly stiff and heavy. It was awful. Five minutes into the run, I wanted to quit. Then, I thought about the my-jeans-feel-tight feeling, and I found my second wind 😉 I definitely utilized the Galloway Method today which truly helped. There’s no way I would have stayed on that
hell machine treadmill if I didn’t incorporate one or two 5-minute walks.
The rest of the evening will be spent writing papers, reading blogs and getting to bed early 🙂 I hope your night is equally as relaxing!
I want to know – What’s your favorite apple? Fuji for me! Unfortunately, they were all bruised and soft this week at the grocery store, so I went with my close second, good ole’ Granny 🙂

The weather today is b-e-autiful ! I ran two miles outside (cue whining) and it was so much harder than my treadmill runs. It’s a hilly place to run, so that wasn’t in my favor, either. I also have performance anxiety. I don’t like when people who aren’t working out can see me. I bet people driving by in their cars were like, “Oh, poor girl. Good for her.” I mean, you know we all do that when we see the Mayor of Struggle City trying to run and we zoom by in our cars. Don’t lie 😉
I didn’t feel too badly about only going two miles, because I have a lot of errands to run today – and I’m walking to do all of them!
There is this coffee place that I have been eyeing for like, six months, and today I thought “Why not?” I love the atmosphere of coffee shops. And do you know what else I love? Writing my blog in a coffee shop. So, that’s why I’m doing 🙂

My walk took about 20 minutes. I even made it in time for the early bird special (because I’m really 75) and got my coffee for .99 🙂 I also ordered an egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel. I know bagels are on many people’s Hell No! Lists, but everything in moderation, right? This bagel was so doughy! Oooohh I want another.
I’ll finish up this post, catch up with some of my favorite bloggers then go finish the rest of my errands. I’ve got to run by CVS, pick up some PB at the grocery store (I don’t feel safe sleeping in a house without PB) and then grab a book that I have on hold at the library (Oh, God. I am 75.)
